Regretful Trump voters hard to come by in Michigan

New Baltimore, MICH. — Robert Rasch had never voted for president before 2016. Then Donald Trump came along, and finally there was a candidate he could get excited about.

Rasch admired Trump’s business background and political courage. “For somebody to stand up and run for president that has no political background, that’s a set of brass,” he said.

Rasch is one of millions of so-called lost voters whom Trump coaxed back to the voting booth in 2016. Rasch has already decided he’ll be voting for Trump again in 2020, based largely on the president’s stewardship of the economy.

It’s going to be a Reaganesque blow out.

If I was a Dem, after the last two years of BS from the Dems, I would gladly vote President Trump. Of course, I’m not a Dem, so I’m not sure if there are reasonable Dems around...

Yes folks, keep up the football spiking and endzone dancing, but if the Repubs cannot attract better down-ticket candidates then Trump will be helpless to get things done.

If the Democrats can’t get back the Rust belt, they know they are finished. They can’t fight to take Southern States and fight to regain the Rush belt at the same time. All Trump has to do is hold on to Mich. and Wisc. to easily win reelection.

I was a reluctant Trump supporter, preferring Cruz. I never doubted I would vote for him over Hillary - I'd vote for navel lint over Hillary, but wasn't thrilled about Trump.

Trump accomplished 98% of what I hoped for from him on election night - the sea of crying Hillary supporters was priceless.

Since then, he's exceeded my expectations on every level. Domestically, on foreign policy, on the economy... he's still trying on immigration and the deep state keeps chugging, but he's working on that too, I hope.

Regrets about voting against Hillary? Impossible. And I'll be thrilled to vote for him this time. Even though the Democrats are heading towards a comically horrific ticket, this time my vote will be 100% pro-Trump, rather than strictly anti-his opponent.

We can’t discount the fact that the Dems are an absolute shit show right now. They have done nothing legislatively and are only focused on being the resistance. That’s not governance and have shown no value to their constituency.

My brother-in-law was in the same boat; he did not like Trump or Hillary. But I asked him who he wanted putting Supreme Court justices on the bench. That convinced him.

Having lived in Michigan in the late 80’s/early 90’s I can understand why people gave up on voting.

Things only got worse from an economic and cultural decay perspective. Cities like Detroit and Flint continued to implode. All any of the elites ever did, Democrat or Republican, was shrug their shoulders and say “Sorry, Bud, but it’s a Brave New World of Globalism out there. This is your New Normal and you’ll just have to grin and bear it.”

Trump smashed that paradigm and the people became engaged again.

It’s going to be a Reaganesque blow out.

I hedge my bets on that only because the Dems are going to pull out all the stops with freebie giveaway proposals. It will draw huge numbers of voters off their couches. Personally I know way too many people who would crawl over broken glass to go and vote to have their student loans forgiven.

Michigan was once nice. Then it got overrun by the beard and burka crowd. If you live in Michigan, you’ll vote for Trump if you want some kind of a livable future.

I was working on Boston MA, in the run up to election day 2016.

I saw the folks on the overpasses waving Trump signs there. I knew that they were far fewer there than anywhere else, but that they were even there in the fist place, told me that the election was not going the way the pollsters were predicting.

The second thing was the rallies....20K people who waited in line ALL DAY, for a 1 hour stump speech. Those folks who attended are motivated enough to get out and vote and be the first in line.

Duh!

Even the stupid push polling that shows Trump losing, in their internals, show he has lost ZERO support among his supporters... which is why all the chicken little nonsense about him losing is laughable.

Trump will win EVERY state he won in 16, and all of them by much larger margins... and will gain several more.

Anyone telling you different is either wholesale ignorant of how and why Trump won in 16, or flat out LYING to you.

Short of a complete economic collapse before next November, Trump will win re-election by the largest EC margin since Reagan.

I know of one person who is ambivalent. But there aren’t many journalists who did vote for him, and the pressure on those who did must be tremendous.

I know a man who called Trump an idiot and was pledged to PIAPS. The Saturday before the election, while in a discussion group, one of the men looked him in the eye and said, “If you vote for that baby killer it will put a blotch on your eternal soul that will never go away.” The guy voted for Trump, and is happy he did.

There was something hinky about the 2018 vote in Michigan, and I think it had something to do with the requests for the 2016 ballots.
