A Delaware woman who says she was severely beaten at a resort is telling her story in public for the first time. Tammy Lawrence-Daley says in January, she was attacked by a stranger inside the resort where she was staying in the Dominican Republic.
"It's very difficult, very difficult reliving," Lawrence-Daley said. "I could hear footfalls behind me. And before I could turn around, he plowed into the back of me."
Tammy Lawrence-Daley was on vacation with her husband at the Majestic Elegance Resort in the Dominican Republic when she says she went downstairs alone one night in search of a snack. Then the man attacked her.
The man, Lawrence-Daley says, was wearing a resort uniform. She tried to fight him off, but after he strangled her she lost consciousness.
"When I came to, it was to him beating me," Lawrence-Daley said. "About the head. Kicking me and beating me."
It was hours before people at the resort found her in an underground crawl space. She was brought to the hospital with severe facial injuries. After months of physical and emotional recovery she says she is finally sharing her story as a warning to others.

That’s where we stayed!
You have it half right - your first sample about the car to the shop - yes, the truck took your car there..
Second is the same as the first - the ambulance TOOK her to the hospital just as the car was taken to the shop.
Easiest explanation:
You ask people to bring things to the place you are, and you take things to the place you are going. As one listener named Simone put it, you bring things here and take things there
I am going to have to remember that easy explanation.
A company I worked for years ago in the aviation field had some young interns every year - students of an aeronautical college. I had a dickens of a time - being the OLD person in the office - of explaining the difference between bring and take to them. Never did make believers out of them.
One stood in front of my desk one day and asked if I wanted him to BRING my mail downstairs to the mailbox. AGAIN, I explained why the way he had asked was wrong. When I was done with my lecture, he smiled and said, “I’m going down to the mailbox. Do you want your mail to go with me?”
Over 35 years ago and I’ve never forgotten that exchange - priceless.
We have a friend who visits Aruba at least twice a year. She loves it.
“”You ask people to bring things to the place you are, and you take things to the place you are going. As one listener named Simone put it, you bring things here and take things there.””
A good example of the proper usage but I don’t think there’s any law against it - just bad grammar..
“brought” also means “bring, right?” If you are at the movies already and speaking of your money, you did BRING it with you (I hope). If you are at home and talking about going to the movies, you are going to TAKE your money with you.
It all depends on WHERE you are when you are speaking of a particular situation. Grammar is fun but it can be overdone or a pet peeve. This happens to be one of mine..
Thanks
It’s not even really safe in gated places on these islands.
Why do they have tall walls around them? Why do that they a lot of Blackwater types with night vision glasses and automatic weapons crawling all over the resort when it gets dark. Why? Because they are very very dangerous.
“”I also brought my books to school, brought my money to the movies, brought home my homework.””
Or worded differently:
You are at school and you did BRING your books with you.
You are at the movies and you did BRING your money with you.
You are at home and you did BRING your homework with you.
Aruba is a heck of a lot easier to get to than Hawaii.
This past April I went to Hawaii from Boston. Hawaiian Airlines direct 11 1/2 hour flight. Plus a 6 hour time change. It is the longest inter US flight in the country.
My pet peeve is constantly being seen.
People insecure in grammar turn “they
gave it to him and me,” into “he and I”
because ‘me,’ in their minds, might be
incorrect and besides, sounds low class.
So they use ‘I’ for both pitcher and catcher.
I wince every time I hear it, which means
I wince a lot.
I was wrong-we stayed at the Fairmont-Southampton which was originally named the Southampton Princess, IIRC. We visited Hamilton, which was great!
Much easier to get to Aruba from here. Bermuda is even easier, just about an hour and a half by plane.
My favorite is still the British Virgin Islands. At least it was when I was there 18 years old. There was ONE murder on the island a few years before. ONE. It was the first in over 20 years that was not a domestic(man on wife). It is extremely safe. Plus there are no big resort hotels. No casinos. Plus , do not even think about smuggling drugs into the island, except pot. You still feel like you are in the old Caribbean. The boating is great. The only negative was Road Town, Tortola put in a cruise ship dock about 19 years ago. So, after that you had to time your visits at certain beaches for when the cruise ships were or not in port.
Depends on whether you prefer a garden of weeds. I mean weed.
I played golf at the Southampton Princess. We stayed at a hotel that was owned by Michael Douglas’s mom. It was on the other side of Hamilton. I can’t remember the name. However, I think the turned it into condos.
My brother inlaw/sister inlaw stayed at the Fairmont Southampton last month.
I’ve never been to the British Virgin Islands. I’ve been to Puerto Rico, which was nice, but with all of the bars on the windows, it seemed likely that there was a problem with theft. However, it was beautiful and the people were very nice.
The short plane ride is definitely a plus.
That is one of the nice things about Bermuda & Aruba. Direct jet service from the US airports. Plus you go through customs there instead of Boston, JFK, etc.
I hate flying through San Juan. It is always am issue.
You take turbo props to most of the smaller islands because their runways are too short for jets. I remember getting all buckled in and then they canceled our flight and bumped everyone back to the flight an hour later.
My 2 year old son had a complete meltdown in the terminal. I pointed this fact out to the lady at the American Airlines counter that yes that was my toddler over the screaming on the floor. Please make sure we are on the next flight out. We found out from the pilot that they bumped us all because there were only 14 people on the plane. Therefore, we could ALL fit onto the next flight and they could save the fuel to fly there and back. Apparently, he said they do it all the time.
When we went to Hawaii we stayed on Oahu for two nights and then flew to Kona on the Big Island. It took an hour to go through TSA security at the Honolulu airport. The problem is they have too many flights through that airport. It was a huge pain for a 45 minute flight. I think the real problem was they did not have enough TSA screeners.
Bars on the windows.
That is a good clue right there. I always look for that on the HGTV show House Hunters International. IF the locals have bars on the windows, it is not a place I a want to live or visit.
I remember my one and only(LAST) trip to Mexico. We went to Playa del Carman. Next door to the hotel was a beach house. It had a 8+ foot tall cinder block wall around it. On the ocean/water view side it had a chain link fence. On the top of the chain link fence was barb wire. On the top of the wall were glass bottles mortared into the top of the wall and then broken off. I still refer to that trip as the vacation from H#LL.
It was great talking with you! I have to leave for an appointment. :)
