We have a friend who visits Aruba at least twice a year. She loves it.
Aruba is a heck of a lot easier to get to than Hawaii.
This past April I went to Hawaii from Boston. Hawaiian Airlines direct 11 1/2 hour flight. Plus a 6 hour time change. It is the longest inter US flight in the country.
My favorite is still the British Virgin Islands. At least it was when I was there 18 years old. There was ONE murder on the island a few years before. ONE. It was the first in over 20 years that was not a domestic(man on wife). It is extremely safe. Plus there are no big resort hotels. No casinos. Plus , do not even think about smuggling drugs into the island, except pot. You still feel like you are in the old Caribbean. The boating is great. The only negative was Road Town, Tortola put in a cruise ship dock about 19 years ago. So, after that you had to time your visits at certain beaches for when the cruise ships were or not in port.
