Florida woman attacked by alligator during swim

She was attacked while swimming at Key Lake Wilderness Park in Cocoa.

Though officials labeled the injuries “significant,” the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) added they were “non-life threatening.”

Alligator attacks, at least in the area, are relatively rare, according to Uzel, “As far as alligator bites, I think this was the second in 35 years.”

Male gators might be more aggressive and territorial during this time of year, given that it’s alligator mating season until about mid-June. The season can also bring the reptiles out of the water and onto land, according to Brett Chism, of Gatorland. In April, the start of the season, Chism advised people to avoid swimming in fresh water lakes and rivers this time of year ...

How can she consider herself a Florida woman if she was crazy enough to swim there? It’s nutty to discount this as the first time in 35 years. There was a period of time when alligators were endangered. No more. It just took 35 years for someone to be foolish enough to swim in an alligator infested water.

You obviously don’t live in Florida. We all swim in waters where there are alligators. It’s very rare that they’ll attack a swimmer.
