Today’s Cryptogram

RXAM, IESJ IJ EW FWQKALIJWK XZ KBV NJEDJ. HBJAJ KBJAJ FQ BEKAJM, RJK IJ QXH RXPJ.---QK. ZAEWDFQ XZ EQQFQF

No CG on Sunday as I’ll be in Naples, FL

You can find this little fun word game, to combat early dementia and senility in us baby boomers, in several daily publications.

The way it works is a letter stands for another letter. For example: AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram).

Beware, the game is very addictive. If this is your first time, don't be intimidated.

PLEASE DO NOT post the answer in general comments, but DO post your time and any tips you might give the group on how you solve these puzzles as puzzle solvers love to hear how you made out.

You can certainly send your solution to my private reply, or if you need a hint for today’s Cryptogram.

TOPICS: Chit/Chat
KEYWORDS: brain; cryptogram; puzzle; todayscryptogram
If you're just starting out on these, be patient, as you'll be proficient in no time.

Solving the puzzle under 8 minutes is good, under 6 very good, under 4 excellent and under 2 "you're a pro!"

If you need a little help you can copy the cryptogram and paste it to Hal’s Helper below:

You can then work on the puzzle without using pen and paper.

Have fun in FL! Hope the weather behaves and you don’t!

3 minutes. Focused on the two letter section of author’s name. Name has a twist which made me chuckle when I realized what I missed. Author’s name opens the fifth word.

Good quote yet tough to do at times.

First sentence in the imperative voice. Reminds me of Bohr’s comment to Einstein.

HBJAJ KBJAJ sealed the deal for me. Low hanging fruit.

I did solve those two words first but they led me no place so I changed course. Don’t know how you were able to solve based on them. Amazing.

3 min but I knew it in one, had to do clicking. Guess the “E”, then focus on the two consecutive five-letter words after a comma.

3 min. Got HBJAJ KBJAJ, then author’s middle and last name. The rest fell into place. Have fun in Naples. When I was a kid, we use to visit Ft. Myers Beach.

3:15 for me.

I didn’t have any difficulty, and I notice in cases like that, I seem to start off and take care of basic substitutions (E, T, A), and look over at the stopwatch and 1:15 has already passed by - when it only _felt_ like 25 seconds or so. I don’t like that!

I think the first word of the author’s name is kind of a giveaway.

We seem to do them the same way, based on the last two, anyway. I transcribe the puzzle, rather than using Hal. Those two words had the thing solved before I had finished transcribing.

LOL - took longer than it should have to get KBV figured out.

I super cheat. I paste the puzzle into an Excel spreadsheet, as is, and use a bunch of string manipulation functions to facilitate filling it in. The basic sheet is already prepared so it’s just as easy as < ctrl> V and f9 and start guessing.

Maybe it’s because I started doing these in the newspaper in the ‘70’s, but I don’t “guess.” You might have gotten away with one erasure, but two meant a hole in the paper. I’ve got some solid leads after transcribing.

I did them in the papers in the 70’s but didn’t use a pencil or pen, I would solve them in my head. I fell out of the habit when I stopped reading papers. I don’t know if I can recapture that skill. Working full time takes a lot of time.

Three minutes. I found "HBJAJ KBJAJ" and the rest flowed from there.
