Rain rain rain. Two of the roads up the hill to Church have been closed for weeks. The hillside is slipping and splitting the roads in half lengthwise. This morning there were cracks starting in the third and last road going uphill and also on the road the Chapel sits on. A jewelry store just doubled down on their support for police after denying entry to an armed deputy.

, N.C. – A jewelry store chain made national headlines last week when an armed deputy was denied access to one of their stores. Now they’re back in the news, but for a much more positive reason.

Reports showed that a deputy in Statesville, North Carolina had purchased an engagement ring and was attempting to pick it up after receiving word that it had been properly sized.

Excited about popping the question, the LEO took time during his lunch break to head to the store. He was on duty at the time, and properly dressed in his uniform and patrol vehicle.

But when he got to the store, the manger wouldn’t let him due to his holstered service weapon.

Confused, the deputy told the manager that he was on duty and that his marked patrol vehicle was in the parking lot in plain view. Removing his service weapon would be a violation of policy, not to mention a safety hazard.

Long story short, the manager refused to budge.

Guess who doesn’t work at the store anymore?

That’s right. After refusing entry to the deputy and creating an explosion of negative PR, Kay Jewelers said in a Facebook post that not only do they stand by law enforcement, but that all uniformed LEO’s are always welcome in their stores at anytime.

They mentioned in the post that the manger in question no longer works for the company.

Within the post the sheriff’s office noted that they were “deeply saddened” that the manager would not allow a trusted public servant into the store.

Removing a service weapon while on duty is not just a threat to the law enforcement officer, but the general public in the area as well. Had the deputy complied with the manager’s request, he would have been ill-equipped to handle an emergency situation.

Kay Jewelers had previously taken to Facebook to apologize to the deputy.

The store said they “sincerely apologize for the mishandling of this matter.”

“We have tremendous respect for law enforcement, and we thank the office for bringing this to our attention. We will be sure to reinforce store training regarding our firearm policy with specific regard to uniformed law enforcement,” Kay Jeweler’s posted.

We’re proud to see they’ve put their money where their mouth is and give thanks to our nation’s protectors.
