FULL TITLE: Texas homeowner shoots dead 19-year-old man after gang of teens opened fire on his home with PAINTBALL guns
A Texas father shot and killed a 19-year-old man outside his home on Tuesday night, after possibly mistaking the teenagers paintball gun for a firearm.
The fatal shooting happened at 11.30pm in East Houston last night, shortly after some sort of disturbance involving more than a dozen teens gathered outside of a home was reported to authorities.
According to police, the father believed a group of teenagers were shooting at his home on Force Street, and, feeling threatened, he fired one shot in return at the alleged perpetrators.
A 19-year-old male was struck by the bullet and rushed to hospital where he later died.

Police say they found paint splatters at the scene and believe the group of teens were firing paintball guns at the familys home, rather than using actual firearms as the father suspected.
They believed that they were that their house was being shot at, Houston Police Department Sergeant Joshua Horn told KHOU. The homeowner, the father, came outside to the disturbance, approached a suspect who was standing out here. Believed that he was a threat, fearing for his safety, fired a round at him.
The father also allegedly fired additional rounds at the vehicle belonging to the 19-year-old victim, Horn added.
Police believe the mans 17-year-old son may have been the groups intended target, and say they wanted to 'fight him'.

Why would he need to shoot a dead man? /sarcasm
He had no way of knowing what kind of guns they had. And even if he knew, why should he allow them to destroy his property.
You point something that looks like a gun at me, especially in the dark, and I’ll do exactly the same thing.
I don’t care if it’s a paintball gun, an airsoft gun, or a cap gun. If you point it at me, I’m not obliged to wait until the first round is fired before I shoot.
Give that man a medal.
If true, this might cause him some trouble in court:
“The father also allegedly fired additional rounds at the vehicle belonging to the 19-year-old victim, Horn added.”
I believe that Texas has an “Under cover of darkness” law for that reason.
Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.

You don’t shoot at someone or their house in Texas.
My son told me that in NH where he lives, nobody locks their doors. Some houses we were looking at had electronic security systems, and I said to him that I thought that for people in NH their security system was their gun safe.
He said it is and the reason nobody breaks into anyone’s house is because they’d be to likely to be shot.
Maybe but if he still wasn’t aware that they were paintballs, then he’s probably OK.
And even if they were, there’s no telling that someone didn’t have a real gun in there anyways.
Good lesson for vandals...
Victim? How bout perpetrator.
Zombie apocalypse.
The home owner had better not be charged. The rabid, adult attacker got what he deserved.

Wow. I had no idea they looked so alike. Could a cop even tell at a distance?
