A driver miraculously survived despite being impaled by a 2.5-foot-long iron spike, which went right through his body. The motorist, known only as Narendra, 20, was driving when he collided with a pick up truck, leaving him impaled on an iron rod.
The metal stick went through the right side of his chest and came out of his upper back, unsurprisingly injuring his lungs.
But medics spent three hours painstakingly removing the spike, and just days later he is up and walking, and is expected to make a good recovery.

Guess he had enough iron in his vitamins for a while.
Anyone have some Bactine?
Nope, in the old caste system the Patels were landed farmers, as opposed to landless farm laborers, so, middle of the system somewhere. One of the Patels I’ve known *is* a doctor, but that’s due to having gone to medical school, he was born in the US, I think his parents were as well, his grandparents were from India. The other Patel I’ve known, uh, wasn’t a doctor, let’s put it that way. :^X
If true, and he has a healthy lung, he should be fine...you could run a marathon with one healthy lung and stay with the big guys doing it.
I was saying it tongue in cheek, but your reply got me thinking.
I did a search for the name “Patel” on the SC Board of Medical Examiners for the name Patel and Smith.
Patel got 224 hits.
Smith, a common name, got 452.
In little SC I suspect 224 is a pretty high count. But like you hinted at, the physicians I have known with that name all went to medical school in the US.
Amusing story: I was chatting with a kid of Indian descent. He told me that his father worked for Boeing in Cali and they moved to SC and live in the upstate. I asked what brought his family to SC and he told me they were pursuing the Indian dream and bought a convenience store.
I hope he had his tetanus shot....................
I hope his tetanus shot was up to date..................
Heh... having the kids follow in the parents' footsteps is a very old practice and not confined to India, but if India hadn't practice the caste system, they might have been the ones colonizing the Earth, instead of Europe. I blame Islam, btw. :^)
“Tetanus, anyone?”
“I’m a leaf on the wind”(SHWAP!!!)
Makes me wonder why we even have two lungs.
