Todays Cryptogram
MHOYR NUDD DGXUO ZYPUI UXUBR RUIMUBOYR Y OBUYZ HJ LYSSGWUII YWO UXUBR MHZHBBHN Y XGIGHW HJ LHSU. ----IYWIPBGM SBHXUBT
Todays CG is courtesy of the Arkansas Democrat Gazette.
You can find this little fun word game, to combat early dementia and senility in us baby boomers, in several daily publications, unfortunately they are copyrighted so we can't use them here. So, we're just going to make up our own.
The way it works is a letter stands for another letter. For example: AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram).
Beware, the game is very addictive. If this is your first time, don't be intimidated.
PLEASE DO NOT post the answer in general comments, but DO post your time and any tips you might give the group on how you solve these puzzles as puzzle solvers love to hear how you made out.
You can certainly send your solution to my private reply, or if you need a hint for todays Cryptogram.
Solving the puzzle under 8 minutes is good, under 6 very good, under 4 excellent and under 2 "you're a pro!"
If you need a little help you can copy the cryptogram and paste it to Hals Helper below:
You can then work on the puzzle without using pen and paper.
Solution to our last puzzle:
I BELIEVE IN RULES. SURE I DO. IF THERE WEREN'T ANY RULES, HOW COULD YOU BREAK THEM? ---LEO DUROCHER
Less than 2 min. Solved 1 letter word, then 3 letter word. The rest fell into place.
Maybe 1 min.
Get the E, get the long word, leave a trail of flames behind you like the Road Runner.
Less than a minute. I started with placing the E, solving UXUBR and things flowed onward.
Strange one today....took a stab at a word but it was wrong BUT it opened up 2 other words and it was sliding down the razor blade of life after that.....
Yesterday stumped me but it only seemed like the day before yesterday the author was fired by Brooklyn Dodgers, went to Mexico then New York Giants and married Larraine Day along the way AND his quote is/was a way of life....
That took a bit, but I had no plan of action. I just bumbled around till I tripped over it.
Tenth word was obvious, confirming the one letter word, and giving me lots of Es to work with.
Easy today. Wise quote.
Remember him as a guest celeb on the Beverly Hillbillies. “Mr Deeeeerocher.”
Haha...GOod one.
Yes, getting the ABACD sequence gives you two words with some common letters, that gets you off to the races...
And there’s that word again in the 13th spot we’ve been seeing of late...
Nice quote :)
2 minutes and I learned something:
With HAL, click on arrow and type the desired letter, it is filled automatically and one doesn’t have to scroll up or down through the alphabet to pick a letter.
Hal is great. It gives you the most frequently letters. You insert for example an “E” and it lights up the whole quote.
I save it for those quotes where I’m stumped.
UXUBR, or similar letter combination are almost always the same word, just as a combination of FLTF is almost always “That”.
Agreed. They are both old friends.
One minute. Found the "e" and the second word and fifth words, and the rest flowed from there.
