CDC: Stop washing your raw chicken

Don’t wash your raw chicken! Washing can spread germs from the chicken to other food or utensils in the kitchen. https://go.usa.gov/xmTqz

The agency recommended placing raw chicken in a disposable bag before placing it in the shopping cart or refrigerator, washing hands with soapy water after handling it, using a separate cutting board to handle it, and never placing cooked food or fresh produce on the same surface as uncooked chicken.

When I purchase a whole chicken I rinse one of the two bowls in the kitchen sink, then I cut/break down the chicken in the sink.

That is how I do it. When I put in a new kitchen sink, I got an extra deep double sink largely with chicken and other meats that I grill, BBQ and smoke in mind. I wanted an easily cleanable work area that would contain the splatters. The new sink is big enough to rinse off my brined turkey and stuff it without making a mess.

Place the entire chicken in the garbage when you get home from the store. After washing of course.

Similar to the old recipe for oven roasted carp.

Place prepared and seasoned carp on a fresh clean cedar shingle.

Roast at 425 degrees for 3 hours and fifteen minutes.

Remove carp from shingle and discard.

Eat the shingle.

I wash ALL the raw meat I purchase for eating.

I will not comply. For the simple reason that all raw chicken in my kitchen is rinsed/washed and bagged in a stainless steel sink, which is then cleaned out with a bleach bearing solution. Any transport to preparation/vac sealing areas is done with the chicken in the plastic bag...while wearing food prep gloves.

All surfaces and cutting boards (non-porous) are then wiped with the same solution after washing with Dawn and 180° water. Chlorine bleach is my favorite potpourri. I've never had any instances of contamination or illness associated with food contamination in my household.

Lazy cooks should heed the CDC if they like. But for me...they can go p!$$ up a rope.
