.......so did he
I used to do that a bunch. Don’t anymore 1) they began warning about injuries and such a while back, plus 2) I can’t make ‘em crack anyway, even when it feels like I need it.
This is horrible, and I pray he recovers function, but it is NOT uncommon. In fact, carotid dissection is the most common cause of stroke in young people. It has also been reported in women who were having their hair washed (leaning back in the sink) at a hairdresser, and in people having cervical manipulation by a chiropractor.
I hope this is covered in Chiropractor school.
A friend in med school used to crack other students necks by moving back and forth and then crack. When he asked me if I wanted a neck crack I said NO!
Sad.
I had a stroke when I was 31.
I do it all the time...
Whats twisting vs side to side? I have a lot of muscle tightness throughout my neck muscles. I try to stretch regularly and hope to work through it through exercise. Want to make sure i avoid anything like this. Yikes.
How do you even do this? Not that I want to try, just want to understand it. I can’t even picture it.
Some people have a weakness in that vessel, he was one of them and this fellow was probably another.
Urge to do it just cause it is mentioned resist the urge.
How many times did his mama tell him not to do that?
WHY in the hell did I just crack my neck when I read this? My mom was right, there really is something just not right about me.
Kind of scary. When the muscles in my neck get tight I have to pop my neck to get relief. Just letting it go isn’t much of an option. It is more of a sideways movement that gets the release but it’s kind of a fine distinction between sideways and a twist.
I tore a muscle in my neck cracking it in my early 20s, haven’t been able to do it the same since and it really bothers me because I can tell when it’s close. Eventually it just happens on it’s own now.
