'Avengers:Endgame' shatters box office records with $1.2B global debut

“Avengers: Endgame” has done the impossible.

In just five days, the Marvel film hauled in more than $1.2 billion at the global box office.

This shatters the previous record for the highest weekend total of $641 million set by “Avengers: Infinity War” last year. This has never happened before and marks the fastest a film has ever reached the billion dollar mark.

“Infinity War” was the previous record holder with 11 days.

In the U.S., the Marvel superhero flick took in a record-breaking estimated $350 million during its opening weekend, shattering expectations. The previous domestic record was held by “Avengers: Infinity War,” which opened last year to $257.6 million.

Disney bumped up its estimates for the film’s full weekend Saturday after a record opening day debut, saying it expected the film to gross between $310 million and $340 million in the U.S.

he was actually created by a third comic publisher. After the title was cancelled, Marvel bought the name. The comic group was named Marvel in early 60.

D C bought the comic character & family but had limited name use.

I haven't seen any of the Avenger films so I have no interest in this one either, but all of my adult children and my grandchildren have already seen this new and final “Avengers: Endgame”!

All LOVED the movie. ALL were totally pleased with the script. (No, I wouldn't dare write about the 'endgame.')

Billy Batson/Captain Marvel is from the early Golden Age of comic books, when superheroes first became a thing. Fawcett Publications was the publisher of Captain Marvel and spinoff books, but DC sued Fawcett (and won) because they felt Captain Marvel was a ripoff of Superman. DC eventually ended up acquiring all the characters from the Fawcett comic books, but would not publish any of them until the 1970's, when Shazam! was first released.

Mar-vell (from Marvel Comics) wasn't introduced until the late 60's, almost 30 years after the original Captain Marvel was introduced. But, the original CM was on hiatus due to DC not doing anything with the character, and when they finally did, Marvel sued DC for using the Captain Marvel name. DC can still call the character Captain Marvel, but they can't use the name anywhere in the title of a book (or in a movie name, I would assume).

“Captain America comes out as gay.”

Well, I figured he went in as gay, so overall it’s a wash.

Overall with what Hollywood pushes out it does comes across well on the big screen.

Hits the normal politically correct messages while still being entertaining. Has a buried build the wall message from Stark for Trumpers. Has a side character three line gay reference but family and self sacrifice keeps the movie afloat. But in the end if your a Caucasians male just remember to please step aside.

“Mar-vell” the Kree alien was always the Marvel character, and was always male. Carol Danvers was always called “Ms. Marvel” until recently.

Captain Marvel, the “big red cheese” with the red costume and lightning bolt motif, started in Fawcett Comics as the kid Billy Batson who was given superpowers by Shazam the wizard and who would transform into an adult superhero by repeating the wizard’s name as an incantation; this is the one bought by DC Comics.

“I will have to check with you about what God thinks of all mymovie choices.”

People who ignore God’s voice often get very defensive when others question whether a thing might be pleasing to God.

“You know, the voices you are hearing are not ‘God’, right?”

First, that is NOT what Maudeen said. Second, how would you even know whether God has spoken to Maudeen or anyone else?

Third, since you are debating about God’s will, the Bible teaches that the burden of proof lies with those advocating something to be good and right:

Romans 12:1-2
I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service. And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Ephesians 5:7-11
Be not ye therefore partakers with them. For ye were sometimes darkness, but now are ye light in the Lord: walk as children of light: (For the fruit of the Spirit is in all goodness and righteousness and truth;) Proving what is acceptable unto the Lord. And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.

I’m not saying Christians should definitely not go see this Avenger’s film. But as a Christian it is a sin to mock others for their convictions to abstain.

1 Corinthians 8:12
But when you thus sin against the brethren, and wound their weak conscience, you sin against Christ.

It is also up to those advocating for it to explain how seeing this film helps to further the cause of Christ and brings glory to God.

If someone just wants to fall back on “this is a free country” then fine. But that has nothing to do with whether something is pleasing to God.

I love Rocket.

And I never thought a talking Raccoon that wasn't named "Rick" would be worth anything.

PS If the magazine is now about a homosexual Furry who pushes global warming and gaia worship, DO NOT tell me.

Let me have my childhood memories unsullied.

I saw the first half of Shazam and I was pretty impressed with it in relation to the crap they churn out these days.

Thanks for sharing that link. It is helpful.

It’s odd that some get defensive over the mere question of what God thinks of something.

The movie reviewer at your link actually went and saw it, did not tell anyone not to see it, but did give some helpful information about its content and what many parents might see as concerning when it comes to this film being marketed to very young children.

Personally, I don’t like giving any money to filmmakers who disrespect Christ’s name, which this film does. Why, in the Marvel universe, where gods and godlike humans exist, is no positive mention of the true God and His Son allowed, but a negative and insulting reference to them is? Why not just leave God and Christ out of it altogether rather than being disrespectful?

An early film in this universe had Captain America mentioning “only one God” in a positive way. But other than that, I think God and Christ have been referenced only in negative and derogatory ways. Apparently, this is what Hollywood, even in the more squeaky-clean superhero productions, thinks about God and Christ.

CaptainAmerica comes out as gay.

Well; he always was a positive and happy person. Did you mean something else?

I've watched the movie twice now. The first time something kept getting in my eyes making them water. Probably forgot to blink or something...

There is actually an old Republic serial from 1941 called The Adventures of Captain Marvel and some of the stuff the superhero does would make all the liberals wince today (e.g. in one of the episodes, he throws a criminal off the roof of a parking garage).

Your God tells you that. My God doesn’t really care about my comic book movies. (He doesn’t care about what you watch either.)

You realize your post reads like a lunatic telling me what Allah expects of me as well. I am sure you join in calling them crazy. What makes your rants less so? It is literally the first 36 chapters of THEIR book as well.
