On 4/19/2019 I posted a thread asking Freepers which generation they belonged to. The thread was an attempt to satisfy my curiosity regarding the generational breakdown of FR because I have gotten the sense that most of us are rather long in the tooth.
Naturally, as a 20-year member of this esteemed site, my hope is that it will ultimately start attracting younger members in order to continue the critical job of spreading the conservative perspective to new generations.
I received 389 responses to my original post, of which 219 actually provided information regarding respondents' birth year or generation.
Here are the results:
What would their age range be?
I find reddit a chore to navigate.
Pre-Boomer. My cat calls me “The Old Broad.”
I was having Sunday dinner with my parents at neighbor’s house, and had been excused for the table because they were having after-dinner chat. Listening to music on radio in living room, I was first to hear the news, told my parents that the Japanese had bombed Pearl Harbor. I was 5. The horrors of that war remain fresh on my mind. Younger friends have NO clue how the civilian population was involved. Gold stars on windows, rationed food, paper, etc. No new cars because factories producing tanks and guns.
I should really write a book about “my” America, beginning on that day.
Put me down as a boomer!
Add another baby boomer.
Didn’t see this the first go ‘round. Gen X here.
Good memory about the Silent Generation.
A lot of the 1960s Red Diaper babies and leftwing political activists that ‘Boomers get blamed for were actually Silent Generation.
Yes, we DID live through some of the "best years" America had to offer.
OTOH...there were still lots of strikes ( something younger generations really don't know about ), Recessions, and real segregation.
Still and all, we lived in an American that was united, watched the same movies, T.V. shows, listened to the same songs ( which actually had a melody you could hum or sing, with words that wouldn't shock your grandparents ), and dances that weren't too obscene and many of which had couples holding each other. There's much more, but I'm afraid that some posters here will just see all of that as being something NOT enviable, but rather backwards.
Another Boomer here
Pick something by Glenn Miller. Make it an upbeat send off.
22-30 Oldest is a Millennial and the other 3 are Gen Z
I wish Sinclair Lewis had been there for those days. His novels about the twenties are ‘granular;” he puts you right there. I’m talking Babbitt, Elmer Gantry, Main Street, Arrowsmith, and more. Domestic ife in the war days in undercovered.
1950 for me.
Count me as a Boomer!
I’m going with Doo-wah-Diddy.
Baby boomer - 1951
“and real segregation.”
And that’s why you, your generation, and in fact all of America Pre-Obama was Evil.
I cite Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez as my authority.
Excellent choice.
I’m a boomer.
Abbey Hoffman was pretty close to 40, so were many of the others of that group. Some were/are WAR BABIES, but the vast majority of that ilk were RED DIAPER BABIES.
The SDSers were mostly BOOMERS!
Generation A.
