French architects have revealed a stunning set of plans to redesign the Notre Dame Cathedral's fire-ravaged roof as a greenhouse.

The proposal was shared after French Prime Minister Edouard Philippe proposed 'an international architecture competition' to rebuild the iconic cathedral's spire which was completely destroyed in the fast-spreading blaze on April 15.

Prime Minister Philippe shared his wish that the cathedral should be 'adapted to issues of our time' and architects Studio NAB have come with the concept of turning the damaged roof into a giant greenhouse as a homage to the importance of nature.

The French studio showed off its design, which comes with an apiary that takes the place of the spire.

I didn’t see anything about a Green New Deal endorsement for this idiotic plan but I probably just missed it.

And you cannot rebuild it like it was. How do you even determine what it “was” since it was an evolving design over centuries of construction.

I’ve read numerous comments promising that the next fire will leave nothing but rubble if some abomination like this is attempted.

You can’t build fireproof with lumber... which is what the roof was for 850 years.

Sure. But, whatever it’s made of, make it look like it did.

Putting a silly glass garden on the top completely changes the point of focus.
Now, I’m not a particularly religious person but I do believe the point of a church should be the church - not some refashioned building that’s merely supporting some new public park.

The replacement roof was also TIMBER/WOOD... the Cathedrals roof has always been WOODEN for its entire history....

And wood is not fireproof.

Even so, it was a spire that replaced the original spire. Changing it to anything else destroys the historical integrity of the architecture.

Wirth all the money pledged to rebuild it, it is becoming an irresistible temptation for every wannabe architect to indulge his own ego-driven fantasies. The fact that it was a church has already been lost; so may as well just bulldoze it and put up some ghastly “repurposed” monstrosity. Keep the bell towers as a facade and fill in behind with a shopping arcade.

A greenhouse. A minaret. Why not replace the stained glass windows with the rainbow flag? Why not build a ledge from which the muzzies can throw gays off of?

I'm aware....My son sent me a VERY old print of the Cathedral when he lived in Paris.....along with a book on its' history.

He also sent me a large print of Paris which has the raised seal of the Louvre, was wrapped in Louvre Paper and sent in a tube with a Louvre stamp affixed.

Last Christmas, we exchanged books on the Eiffel Tower.

Just move it, stone by stone, to the U.S. We can rebuild it and do a meticulous historically accurate restoration. The French can repurpose the site for something in keeping with the modern spirit of the nation. An abortion clinic, refugee settlement center or a mosque, I suppose.
