FULL TITLE: Woman Gets Uber Driver Fired For Refusing To Take Her To Get An Abortion. Now She's Looking To Sue Him.

A 20-year-old college student in upstate New York reported an Uber driver for refusing to take her to get an abortion. According to the women’s account, which was reported on by Yahoo! Style (UK), the ride-sharing company canned the pro-lifer.

But now the woman is looking to take legal against the driver.

“I’m in college in upstate NY and I don’t have a car on campus because it’s expensive,” she wrote in a message posted to Reddit earlier this month.

“I’m 20 years old and I found out I was pregnant and subsequently decided I wanted an abortion because I’m in no position to care for a child,” the woman said.

She found a clinic about an hour from her university, because the nearby Planned Parenthood had a schedule that didn’t work for her. “Because I don’t have a car, I rely on Uber and [L]yft to get me places,” she said.

The student then recounted her interaction with the Uber driver, who attempted to dissuade the woman from choosing abortion before telling her he could not drive her to the clinic.

“My appointment was at 11:30am so at 9:58am my Uber arrived and he immediately seemed uncomfortable. After about five minutes in the car, he asked, ‘are we going to a planned parenthood?’ I said no (because we weren’t), but it set off alarm bells that he would even ask that,” she recounted. “The destination I put in was just the name of the doctor and the address of the clinic, there was nothing that would suggest it was an abortion clinic. After a few more minutes he asked, ‘are we going to an abortion clinic?’”

Catechism of the Catholic Church

1868. Sin is a personal act. Moreover, we have a responsibility for the sins committed by others when we cooperate in them:

- by participating directly and voluntarily in them;

- by ordering, advising, praising, or approving them;

- by not disclosing or not hindering them when we have an obligation to do so;

- by protecting evil-doers.

The driver recognized the address.

Some years ago most of the rideshare drivers I had were native born American english speakers. Most rideshare drivers from my limited experience seem to now be former taxi drivers and non native english speakers.

Before I became an Uber driver, I knew a Filipino who did it in Atlanta. He quit when he went back to the Philippines; in all of Southeast Asia, Uber has been replaced by a Singapore-based service called Grab.

“How about we HELP these kids once they’re born??”

Kids get a K-12 education worth about $110,000 to $250,000 per kid at taxpayer expense.

SCHIP child health care cost coverage is quite often free, but can cost $20/month.

Sounds like premeditated entrapment to me.

Or, possibly, a lawsuit scam, planned by politically and legally sophisticated people.

Did the woman “accidentally” record the entire episode on her cellphone?

The destination address may have tipped off the driver that it was an abortion clinic, perhaps that address was cross-referenced with “abortion services” on Google Maps, etc.

Anyway, good for this driver for trying to save a life. It was a long shot, but if it had worked, the kid (and probably the mom) would have eventually thanked him.

Her lawsuit threat is a complete and total joke and will go nowhere. What are her damages? She was an hour late for her abortion? Ho-hum. And even if she won some contrived “emotion distress” claim against him, it’s doubtful the dude has deep pockets (if he did, he wouldn’t be driving Uber). Not even the wackiest left-wing feminazi lawyer will take a case like this.

I once had an uber driver call me up to ask where I was going. He was in an airport waiting queue and didn’t want to leave it if I wasn’t going to anywhere he didn’t want to go. I was going too far for his preference. In his poor english he demanded I cancel the ride instead of him doing it after he accepted. It is a violation of uber rules to ask before pickup what the destination and refuse it and it is also a violation to request that I cancel (It was late and I wanted to get on to another driver anyway).

I reported him to Uber and only got a stupid weak form letter saying they are working to educate their new drivers about the rules. There was no mention of his getting fired for it.

“why are you on FR now instead of in front of a clinic protesting?”

Obviously protesting doesn’t work.

I think every Uber I’ve been on had a foreign driver. It’s no different from the cab drivers, except the car is nicer.

>>>Why do people tell the help what they are doing?<<<

I imagine the woman asked him to take her to abortion clinic. That’s a pretty big clue right there.

because the nearby Planned Parenthood had a schedule that didn’t work for her.

Did she try Burger King? Their drive-thru abortion window is open 24 hours...

The attitude of personal convenience as the main consideration is completely stupefying.

It costs the taxpayers about $110,000 to $250,000 per kid. I'm not sure what it is worth...

She still managed to kill her baby about an hour later. It will be interesting to see if she publicly identifies herself by actually filing a lawsuit.

The RIGHT THING would be following through in helping them once they are brought into this earth and not stopping our concern at the point of birth

As conservatives, we DO exactly this...

We advocate for the ONLY system that can truly help them and has proven throughout history to be the ONLY one to lift the masses out of abject poverty......LIMITED GOVERNMENT + FREE MARKET CAPITALISM!!!

1. He did try to talk her out of it.

2. Even after she got out and started making phone calls to find a cab to the abortion clinic, he hung around for 10 minutes more and offered her a ride back home. She firmly refused. For a second time.

3. At that point, his only option was to remove himself from the scene rather than serve as an accomplice. That's what he did.

4. I DO vigils at clinics. I've done hundreds of them over the past 40 years. I don't fault this guy for doing all he could do as an Uber driver: talking toher about prolife, and then not driving her to her murder appointment.

What *could* he do? Abduct her?
