How does CNN cover its costs? Is cable keeping CNN alive by including it in cable package deals?

CNN are suffering from the same mental disease as print media-

The consensus is that CNN gets most of its revenue from cable carriage fees. Ratings/advertising are not germane to their survival. So as long as we are paying for cable tiers that include CNN, whether we watch or not, they will stay in business.

Some people must be funneling some serious money into CNN in lieu of advertising revenue.

Nope. They don’t need ad revenue. Cable carriage fees sustain them.

Doesn’t matter unless they are a Nielsen family which is about 40,000 people across the United States. That sample makes all of our viewing decisions.

If one wants fake news, one knows where to go.

Ya. No more cable TV for us as of almost a year ago. All of the streaming packages seem to have CNN, though with Fox News extra. So far we are not subsidizing CNN.

and at least some of that viewership ( and MSNBC) is from people just tuning in to see their reaction of no collusion...

And yet they’re constantly in the news.

They seem to get more exposure from what other outlets say about them than from their own channel.

“Doesn’t matter unless they are a Nielsen family which is about 40,000”

Not sure this is still true. The cable companies know exactly what is being watched on every cable box. This data goes to a lot of places and it would not surprise me if it affected ratings.

At least they have that loyal Air Port demographic. ‘S

Since many airports get Fed money we should insist there
is choice of the news feeds shown at airports.

We have been held as a captive audience of CNN while we wait
for our flights, and it must end.

Without this monopoly at airports nobody would watch CNN.

I am beginning to think they care more about passing fake news, than they do about ratings.

Do the people who buttonhole you to tell you about their version of religion care if you like them?

No, they will piss you off to spread their faith.

Communism is a faith.

Connect the dots and the "rational" for their behavior, their neglect of ratings, the rabid foaming at the mouth, snaps into place.

From a post in the Q thread that linked together a web of people spanning back to the 1947 OSS relationships and the business relationships last evening there is so much tangled together that money is not an object, except in the pursuit of power.

If their ratings are so bad, where is their money coming from?

Soros?

correct as far a cable goes, now that so many folks are cutting I’m sure they are developing a new metric.
