A Florida fishing boat captain shared video of his latest catch: a 757-pound swordfish that could be a new state record.
Capt. Nick Stanczyk posted a video to YouTube showing scenes from his fishing trip off the coast of Islamorada, in the Florida Keys.
The video shows Stanczyk landing a 757-pound swordfish.
The captain said it took about eight hours to reel the fish in, and it took seven people to haul the massive fish off the boat.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission lists the state record for a swordfish at 612 pounds, meaning Stanczyk's catch might be a new record.

I’ve had shashimi, raw tuna, sort of a little mini-steak, when we were in Hawaii. OMG, was it ever good. If swordfish is like that, I’m onboard!

Swordfish & tuna are similar to steak in that you grill ‘em and slice ‘em with a steak knife.

I’ve never heard of a harpoon on a charter boat. I’m guessing a talking head doesn’t know the difference between a harpoon and a flying gaff.

Pretty fortunate considering they were kinda busy for the next eight hours. Imagine having been already fishing all day and then hooking up with that bad boy.
And they will never have another day like this ever.
Except for the captain, the people he took out were first timers. That would definitely make you feel awkward. Like the time in my 20s when I was hired by a company in October and a month later I won the annual Thanksgiving turkey giveaway drawing that the company put on every year. There I was, standing there, with all these old-timers staring darts at me because they had been there 40 years and had NEVER won the turkey. AWWWKWARD! Though I imagine the swordfish would be about ten thousand times worse.

Well, the Captain says he had been waiting for this all his life...............
The tuna fishermen up in New England call it a harpoon too.
It is like a gaff with a point on the end, just to get another line in the fish until you can get it up against the boat to put a rope around its tail.
The last thing you want to do is lose a fish when its 10’ from the boat that you have been fighting for 2-3 hours.

I also noted that they fought fish from rod holder...not sure that is IGFA legal either.
PS...when they’re hauling it on board you can see the dart next to the dorsal.
Lobsters. Just grab a rope and pull in traps full of them.
As a temp, my brother won the door prize at the employer’s annual banquet. That was almost thirty years ago — and he is still there.
