Want to Escape Global Warming? These Cities Promise Cool Relief

DULUTH, Minn. — As the West burns, the South swelters and the East floods, some Americans are starting to reconsider where they choose to live.

For advice, a few of them are turning to Jesse Keenan, a lecturer at the Harvard University Graduate School of Design. At least once a day, Dr. Keenan, who studies urban development and climate adaptation, gets an email from someone asking where to move to be safe from climate change. The messages come from people who are thinking about moving not because they have already been hit by catastrophe, but because they see the writing on the wall.

So, what does Dr. Keenan suggest to these advance planners? Maybe climate-proof Duluth.

That’s a slogan that he created as part of an economic development and marketing package commissioned by the University of Minnesota Duluth. Some community leaders think they can spur growth by bringing in more people, and they sense an opportunity in climate change. And Duluth isn’t the only urban area that has climate migration on their radar. In a February speech, the mayor of Buffalo, Byron W. Brown, declared his city a “climate refuge.”

I visited my daughter at college last week. I could not believe the pervasiveness of global warming propaganda.

In the dining hall, every table has a little paper notice reminding the students of all the things the university is doing to fight global warming.

They are actually just the same things that my university used to ask us to do: don’t waste food, don’t litter, only take one plastic fork, etc. But now it’s all dressed up as “fighting global warming.”

The intensity of indoctrination that young people are experiencing is amazing.

Came to Chicago this weekend to visit family north of the city. Wanted to check out a Cubs game, too...got 6 inches of snow instead. No thank you.

Much of this is from the all the damn “administrators” that have been hired at 6 figures a pop! They proliferate the campus and have very little to do except ride the crest of the latest fad. Private institutions can spend their money as they want. However state legislators who are supposed to watchdog state schools have been criminally neglectful in minding the spending at these schools. Every state college\university president ought to be sweating inform of a state committee explaining the growth & cost of these positions.

That’s really smart thinking, moving to Duluth or Buffalo right now so you are ready for the climate apocalypse.

There’s only one downside to that plan.

Oh for goodness sakes. If the erf changes it’s climate then there is no place safe on the erf. Unless they’re selling the idea that the climate will change only where evil conservatives live?

The whole aim of practical politics is to keep the populace alarmed (and hence clamorous to be led to safety) by menacing it with an endless series of hobgoblins, all of them imaginary. H. L. Mencken

At the University of Missouri ‘69 - ‘73, we were blissfully unwoke. We were harangued and made to feel guilty about absolutely nothing. You just blissfully lived your life in complete ignorance of all the pending doom.

Then “The Limits to Growth” was published while I was in school and it’s never been the same.

Then “The Limits to Growth” was published while I was in school and it’s never been the same.

And "The Population Bomb", etc.

Earlier generations were terrified by Rachael Carson's "Silent Spring" or humiliated by Michael Harrington's The Other America (1962)

The Other America

Then Ron Sider published "Rich Christians in an Age of Hunger" in 1978. ...

(An interesting, if sometimes controversial, counterpoint is "Productive Christains in an Age of Guilt Manipulators: A Biblical Response to Ronald J. Sider" by David Chilton.

East floods? There’s a broad statement. Pretty sure I live on the east coast, NY and there is NO flooding here.

There ARE cool temperatures on April 16.

Guess that’s global something or other.

Well, if the agit-prop makes the kids clean up after themselves & practice frugality, maybe it’d be worthwhile.

But from what I’ve seen, it doesn’t.

I suppose they could move up here. We have been 10 - 15 degrees below normal for about six months now.

(On second thought, don't move here.)
