A student at Fordham University in New York died Sunday just a few hours after falling three stories from the campus clock tower, according to news reports.
Monfries somehow fell through an opening in a landing and plunged 30 feet down the inside of the tower. She was critically hurt, with injuries to her head and body, police said.
Although Keating Hall is locked and closed at night and access to the tower is restricted at all times, students still manage to find a way in to climb to the top of the Gothic tower to see the skyline, school administrators said. Students told the Times that climbing the tower is a storied rite of passage.

How could you say that? They will still vote. Come ballot time the dead rise up.
I figured since it was private, she had paid for it anyway.
Years ago, it may have changed, our public university would cancel the deceased student’s remaining classes at no charge.
College suicides were rampant in my day for assorted reasons, some couldn’t deal with romantic break-ups, some were stressed out at a potential failing grade, some had yet to figure out anything they wanted in life, some were just affected by depression exasperated by being removed from their family support network.
I remember one who was rooming with one of my best friends in the dormitory. One day, he decided to dive off a walkway that was above a sunken loading dock. The drop wasn’t so bad but he happened to hit the steel drainage grate head-first and died quickly. I also had a professor who killed himself close to the end of the school year. In retrospect, he was giving off clues right and left but most college kids are all about themselves and not tuned into the needs of others.
Or gravity.
Seriously You never did anything stupid as a young person?
Darwin sighed.
I had a friend who died playing stupid games in high school. I suppose this is more common than we would like to think. RIP to the young lady.
Starbucks will probably still be able to find enough baristas to keep their coffee flowing into the veins of Americans.
How many of us ...but by God’s Grace, escaped similar youthful moments...
I did.
...several times.
RIP.
Prayers for the loved one in their grief...
Inside the clock tower?
Almost a MONK episode made a few years ago. The female student had been murdered by her “professor/lover”. Her body placed on one of the clock’s hands. Time and alibi conveniently noted by hundreds on campus.
Or
“The Stranger” Orson Welles, Loretta Young, (Alfred Hitchcock) =
attempted murder on the dilapidated stairs of a church clock tower.
being colossal dicks about dead people is something of an institutional hobby at FR . . . .
Same murder, but seen in an episode of MONK.
A. Hitchcock made a movies “The Stranger” which had an attempted murder take place in a church clock tower. Orson Welles failed in his attempt to murder Loretta Young.
Yes I think that was the professor. Not sure as I only saw the end of that. Think he had some relation with the girl.
As did I. This young lady left a family that is heartbroken, and joking about her tragic death is inappropriate and disreputable. I pray that God will comfort and draw them to Him.
Am thinking about aski g to have this thread pulled. I should have known better.
It was bd timing ..with her graduation coming up.
It was bAd timing ..with her graduation coming up.
The cost of the sheepskin pales compared to even refunding one semester's tuition.
Or, maybe the school is really just being kind in regards to the memories of the family members.
