A student at Fordham University in New York died Sunday just a few hours after falling three stories from the campus clock tower, according to news reports.
Monfries somehow fell through an opening in a landing and plunged 30 feet down the inside of the tower. She was critically hurt, with injuries to her head and body, police said.
Although Keating Hall is locked and closed at night and access to the tower is restricted at all times, students still manage to find a way in to climb to the top of the Gothic tower to see the skyline, school administrators said. Students told the Times that climbing the tower is a storied rite of passage.

Was alcohol involved? Proppply
I thought this might be about climbing the TECH Tower and stealing the “T”
An old Georgia Tech tradition
So...
A “journalism” student from Portland Oregon died playing stupid games at a private University, and still graduates postmortem.
“Monfries was from Portland, Oregon, and was studying journalism. School officials said they plan on awarding her a posthumous bachelors degree.”
Global Warming
She’ll definitely be voting, and probably writing articles.
Death by selfie?
Taking a selfie?
Sad story. Late night shenanigans just before graduation. Rest in peace.
Sympathy for her loved ones...youth can be hazardous to one’s well being but most of us are fortunate and lucky enough to survive it....I know I dodged many a “bullet” while growing up ... my best friend gave me a old card, he had bought to give to my Mom, when I turned 21. It was a sympathy card because he figured I was going to die young from my “thrill-seeking”.
At 66, I can look back and realize how fortunate I am to have survived the “crazies” but not sure I would change a bit of them.

Stupid is supposed to hurt.

She chose...
Will she still be on the hook for her student loans?
Did she “check her privilege” before falling?
I presume she was a Physics student, setting up some experiment with time dilation.
One less Liberal to worry about.
A few years ago, our department lost a student to a car wreck. We found the university, like apparently all universities, has guidelines for when a postmortem degree can be awarded. I have no problems with a postmortem degree being awarded in this situation even if the student died in a foolish way.
Perhaps graduation standards are too low?
It was detective Columbo, I think, who solved a similar death, saying it was a murder. It seems the bad guy murdered this girl and at 10:10, laid her body on the clocks minute hand. (they didn’t say how.)
The murderer was in class taking an exam when, at 10:20, she slid off and “fell”. Columbo solved it by finding out why the clock suddenly went faster and deduced the body’s weight sped it up. At least that’s how the script went.
It may not be related but April is known at the University as Suicide Month
