The large, flightless birds, with dagger-like claws, are considered the world’s most dangerous.

“He was doing what he loved,” she said, adding that she did not want to talk anymore.

"The cassowary can slice open any predator or potential threat with a single swift kick. Powerful legs help the cassowary run up to 31 miles per hour (50 kilometers per hour) through the dense forest underbrush.”

“It looks like it was accidental. My understanding is that the gentleman was in the vicinity of the bird and at some point fell. When he fell, he was attacked,”

“First they give you that com hither look. “

I’d rather indefinitely dither rather than wither.

3inch magnum 00 buckshot ought to do it for these modern Dinos.

“Do you think they will cut into the skunk or coyote population?”

I’d be happy if they cleared the raccoons and opossums out of our backyard. I’ve put down nearly a pound of cayenne pepper and 2 gallons of ammonia. Even shooting them in the butt with a BB gun hasn’t convinced them to move on.

But the more important question is can Cassowaries be trained to hunt Democrats? If so I propose breeding locally. Pratt’s Wayne has a large area for the Sandhill Cranes. Maybe we could portion some of it off, breed them, train them, and then turn them loose on Springfield.

Hell, nothing else has worked. Might as well give it a shot.

I was very happy with my safety in cold weather hypothesis until Lurker came along in #75 and shot it down with global warming!

Looks like I may have to put out a WARM welcome for my new Casuarius neighbors.

Doubting the County will allow Claymores in the front yard?
Command detonated, not the mechanical ambush type.

ANTIFREEZE!!! GOOD OLD GLYCOL!
The CHEAP STUFF, ethylene glycol, has a sweet flavor birds love it, dip their beak into it and deader than a dodo!
HO, HO, HO, I can sleep tonight.

Those cassowaries picked the wrong county to invade.

Cassowary claw neckless could be a big seller over on ebay.

Yes, your friend the redhead will be safe between the cold and the ethylene glycol.

Do the Cassowary like to eat reticulated Python?
The snake would creep up and take it by the legs, a favorite snack for pythons.

Armadillos would no longer be a problem with their leprosy...

The wild hogs are not too far off, Cassowaries would go for the small ones, might keep them in check?
Hogs are tough.

The cassowary plumage is colorful, maybe they could drop them from helicopters in the Chicago parks, the locals can BBQ them and make headdresses.

A .22 >1000 fps air rifle with “destroyer” pellets will do the trick. For the varmints, that is. Granted, you might have to bury a dead varmint or several. Or, Adobo style, done right, the raccoons are actually fairly tasty, tho’ if they are not in a rural setting, I’d hesitate at that.

REALLY effective are the dog-proof coon traps - but then you still have to deal with the trapped opossum or raccoon.

they would be exciting to hunt than turkeys!

I don’t know?
My son in law is a turkey hunter, and he takes good care of the grandkids and all...

Laying in a blind making noise to call one in and it gets him from behind?

Also would not fit in my deep fryer.
You know how much oil that would take?

“He was doing what he loved,”

I'll bet he was loving it a bit less there toward the end...

Cassowarys (ies?) aren’t very bright. “Father, forgive them, for they do not know what they are doing.”

“the raccoons are actually fairly tasty, tho’ if they are not in a rural setting, I’d hesitate at that.”

I recall a news show where they interviewed this old guy. Coon dogs baying out back, him playing blues on his guitar in his run-down home. Made extra money hunting raccoons and selling their meat.

In downtown Detroit.

Cassowary with clueless tourist on Australian beach.

I wonder if the bird expects him to feed it.

I wonder if the bird expects him to feed it.

Maybe so.

From https://blogs.scientificamerican.com/tetrapod-zoology/how-dangerous-are-cassowaries-really/:

By far the greatest number of attacks (109) involved soliciting of food by the cassowary. In areas where humans have taken to feeding cassowaries, some cassowaries act boldly and aggressively in expectation of being fed and will run up to or chase people, sometimes kicking if no food is offered. Kofron (1999) reported that such behaviour was not recorded in his study area prior to 1985. Human feeding would thus appear to have modified cassowary behaviour and in fact cassowaries are naturally wary and highly unlikely to attack without provocation.

Who was "he" in this case? The cassowary? Did "he" love gutting overly curious tourists?

Or was the "he" here the tourist, who was being overly affectionate towards a wild beast?

He shoulda stuck to swans or barnyard animals.

Regards,
