The large, flightless birds, with dagger-like claws, are considered the world’s most dangerous.

“He was doing what he loved,” she said, adding that she did not want to talk anymore.

"The cassowary can slice open any predator or potential threat with a single swift kick. Powerful legs help the cassowary run up to 31 miles per hour (50 kilometers per hour) through the dense forest underbrush.”

“It looks like it was accidental. My understanding is that the gentleman was in the vicinity of the bird and at some point fell. When he fell, he was attacked,”

And it appears the gentleman is no spring chicken?

A few of them roaming the dark streets of Chiraq, and it might a huge BBQ party or a massacre?

“They say they like to disembowel people”

This article said that is an urban myth. I’ll let your video do the talking to settle this conflict. I’ll bet the birds are killers, based on the video.

Although the danger presented by cassowaries is real it has been somewhat exaggerated and it is almost unheard of for one of the birds to instigate an attack. In the vast majority of cases the birds have been approached by people wanting to feed them. The birds suddenly panic and usually chase or charge their ‘victim’. Urban myths abound about the birds being able to disembowel a man with their claws. The last record human death by cassowary was in 1926. The claws however cannot do this – though they can leave a nasty puncture wound up to two centimeters in diameter

“The last record human death by cassowary was in 1926.”

About two deaths per century. A fairly unique way to go.

# 19. Another dam Alternative relationship! (Which one is CIS, the chicken or the monkey?)

From the story:

“I was told last night that (the man killed) was breeding them. I got notification that a cassowary had killed somebody.”

FWC lists the cassowary as Class II wildlife that “can (CAN) also pose a danger to people. Substantial experience and specific cage requirements must be met.”

75 Years experience was not enough.

Questions!

Do the Cassowary like to eat reticulated Python? Can they help reduce another invasive species? Move them to the everglades!

If they don't, can they fly when you drop them from a helicopter? If they can't they all need to take helicopter rides before they move on to this list! http://www.iucngisd.org/gisd/

Winter kill should keep Illinoisians safe from the Cassawary. (Armadillos and illegal aliens are coming however, and they are bringing leprosy with them!!!)

(This woman is happy, she is happy because she knows that the snow killed all the cassawary and she only has to look out for grizzlies and wolves!)

(I see why you asked me to this thread, someone had to bring a picture of a women and there is nothing to drink but melted snow! :)

“Now, I’m hoping the minus 25F winters keep them out of DuPage County IL?”

Only until Global Warming kicks in. Then they’ll run from Naperville all the way to Bloomingdale. We are so screwed.

And I was just beginning to rest easy, and you just had to bring that up!

CRAP.

Do you think they will cut into the skunk or coyote population?

The skunks get my dogs about once a year and some of the coyotes hanging around my house make me nervous.

Guessing, I’ll get used to NOT being the top of the food chain anymore? Fun while it lasted.
