Savor the moment when Star Wars 9 rolls around this Decemberit may be the last new Star Wars movie for a little while. All involved at Lucasfilm and Disney have been touting the upcoming film as the end of the Skywalker saga, and with that comes something of a reset according to Disney CEO Bob Iger.
Speaking with Bloomberg (via The Playlist), Iger revealed that after Star Wars: Episode IX, the movies will be taking a bit of a break:
We have not announced any specific plans for movies thereafter. There are movies in development, but we have not announced them. We will take a pause, some time, and reset because the Skywalker saga comes to an end with this ninth movie. There will be other Stars Wars movies, but there will be a bit of a hiatus.

Permanent would be okay..................
YAWN , Star Wars ?
Star Wars is doomed and they did it to themselves.
After the absolute MURDER of the franchise that episode 8 was, it’s gonna take quite a bit to earn any kind of goodwill back.
Can’t figure out additional ways to destroy the franchise and s3it on the fans at the moment. The Mouse knows that people will slowly catch on if they keep releasing installments (ie phantom menace did well because it took people some time to realize how bad the prequels were) so they are going to drop off the radar to allow people the time to forget and avoid the backlash.
How they managed to milk laser swords, weird (but interesting) costumes and spaceships for so long is beyond me.
When Diversity is added they remove everything else
After going to the theater with my oldest son to see “The Last Jedi”, I don’t have the desire to sit through another one of them. It was horrible.
“its gonna take quite a bit to earn any kind of goodwill back.”
it’s going on hiatus so the upcoming generation won’t remember what a craphole the star wars movie had turned into ...
The movies. Meanwhile Resistance will keep going and there will be 2 new TVs on +. Milk that cow.
I can’t wait until Disney+ which debuts 11/12 at $6.99 a month. It will have the first SW live action TV series.
I watched the first Star Wars 27 times in the theater.
I’m over it. They’ve ruined it.
animated seems to have filled in fine.
I watched the first Star Wars once.
None since. None...............
I enjoyed the Original Trilogy, but they were not really all that original. Lucas admits that the first film of the Original Trilogy was inspired by Kurosawa's The Hidden Fortress (a Samurai attempts to escort a princess through enemy territory with the help of two wandering peasants - one tall and skinny and one short and plump). The final attack on the Death Star was lifted from the WW2 action flick 633 Squadron, in which DeHavilland Mosquitoes have to maneuver through some intricate fjords to bomb an elusive target that is protected by an outcropping of rock.
What made it clever was transplanting it to outer space, similar to adapting Kurosawa's The Seven Samurai and Yojimbo into westerns in the 60's. I think they have exhausted the (non) original premise at this point.
