It has gripped an ever-growing army of fans across the world with its epic battle scenes, racy plots and, of course, dragons since first gracing our screens in 2011.

And as the final season of Game Of Thrones premieres next week, more viewers than ever are set to tune in, eager to find out the latest twists and turns in the fight for the coveted Iron Throne.

More than one billion viewers in 170 different countries are expected to watch each episode in the final season - which kicks off on April 15.

You are correct. I think a lot of source material for many stories is somewhat salacious and (in the past) such material was "toned down" so that it could be shown to the public. GoT obviously didn't see ther need to "tone down" GRRM's writing in the early seasons. He delved into grim historical truths and that's what they chose to put up on the screen.

I think I am in the minority on GRRM. I don't find his writing very enjoyable. I think his plotting is muddy and overly complex. He has good ideas. George Lucas also has good ideas. But just as Lucas is not a good director and not a great writer, I think GRRM is more of an idea man and less of a writer. But that's my opinion. Plenty of people find him an extremely enjoyable writer and they like the books more than the show.

I would also say that, while GRRM is using source material that is "grim" indeed, I think he wallows in it. His stories treat women and children (and men too) in appalling ways. Sure, he can say "Look at history" but I kind of think he likes that stuff too much. I don't see him as entirely normal.

Nor have I. I’m still watching Soupy Sales reruns on YouTube.

Much more fun.

Was not initially into Game of Thrones (no HBO) but had the opportunity to see an episode a few seasons back and borrowed my son’s HBO passcode on Direct TV and went back to the beginning and watched a couple of episodes, 3 or 4 nights each week until I got caught up in time for the start of Season 7. Good stuff. Looking forward to the final season.

I was into Vikings but it diminished in my eyes after Ragnar departed and now with the whole split seasons schedule, I lost interest pretty quick and not sure when they’ll be on again.

Me either.

If I want drama and stuff, The Sandbaggers suits me.

Hmmm..I’ve always thought GOT is an incredibly well done show in terms of story line, writing, acting and directing..maybe one of the best TV series in the history of TV, IMHO. Absolutely top quality and many of the episodes are on par with a major motion picture.

The story line has also pretty closely followed the books (most of which I’ve read, until the most recent). So kudos to the writers and producers for that also.

To me, it’s been ‘not miss TV’ for 7 seasons now and DW and I are sad to see it ending this year..

It mostly got toned down because the show made the women stars, and the stars negotiated clauses to get out of nude scenes. It’s HBO, they’ll go nude any chance they get.

Thank you! So sick of FReepers bashing TV and movies. Fricking probably still reading Horatio Alger stories by candlelight ROFL

Your loss...... I've never understood the patronizing self-pride that many who don't want to participate in something as simple as watching TV programs, reading certain books, or seeing certain movies seem to possess.

It's called not wanting to fund the enemy. All that money you give to HBO gets funneled right to the DNC to be used against you and your children.

No TV show is worth that. 1/2 the nonsense with the media would come crashing down overnight if Conservatives instead of being lazy just found something else to do,

Yeah, the books are quite graphic. I just re-subscribed to HBO and will cancel the day the show finishes per my normal. I wish GRRM would finish the books but at this rate he’ll die first.

Your loss. Though filled with non-American cast members, this is an American product--a successful American product.

Two years ago, I was playing golf in the South-port England area or may have been Liverpool, can't remember which, my Caddy asked me if I watched Game of Thrones. I said are you kidding me? we love that show. He told me he had a mate that was on the show for a short time, can't recall the season but his friend was killed in the woods by a Dire Wolf. His friend said it was an incredible experience working on the series, even for a short time. My caddie was extremely proud of the series as he should be.

To anyone that hasn't seen the series I envy you. A wild ride ahead.

I had to play catch-up, but I’ve seen and enjoyed all seven seasons. Interesting,Joh Snow and Wildling Ygritte ended getting married. She was one of my favorite characters.

Game of Thrones is the only show on TV that gets future climate correct!

Winter is coming!

Just don’t know when!

I rented Season One of DVD from the library. Watched first two episodes, took it back to the library. Violent porn doesn’t interest me.

Does anybody know how to stream Game of Thrones legally?

You can pay by the month for HBO Go, I think it is $15. You can then wait until it is over and watch all of the episodes in 30 days for cheap.

Exactly, that’s why all those 80’s B level horror/comedy movies had boobies. So people would watch that crap
