Humans are about to see the first-ever photo of a 'supermassive' black hole (tr)

The heart of every major galaxy is said to contain a supermassive black hole — a place where anything, including light, can be devoured to the point of no return.

For years, scientists have struggled to capture one of these deadly masses on camera, since the absence of light renders them nearly impossible to see.

Now, for the first time, a group of scientists from the international Event Horizon Telescope (EHT) project are expected to unveil a photograph of a black hole to the public.

This little PR stunt has my fraud radar on full alert.

Picture of a black hole, my hindquarters - you can’t photograph something that doesn’t exist.

This announcement is going to turn out to be something super lame, I bet.

Maybe each one will be observing in a different electromagnetic spectrum or something like that. Or enable blurry images to be enhanced.

“Have a look in my Skilly-O-Scope. It’s a black hole.”
“I don’t see a thing.”
“That’s how you know it’s a black hole.”
“Wow.”

Isn’t it more accurate to say that they will show a picture of a place in space where a Black Hole resides?

If it doesn’t exist, then what is causing the observed gravitational effects?

Note that observation of gravitational effects is a very well developed science, for a long time. It located Neptune and predicted the existence of Pluto, for example.

"...to the point of no return."

And at what point might that be?

It’s a fraud.

Everytime they try to take a picture of it, the camera gets sucked into it.

If they kept using a more powerful flash, I wonder of any of the quasars would appear brighter?

If you were past the event horizon and pointed a flashlight out of the black hole, would you still be stretched out like a strand of spaghetti and crushed like a cockroach under an anvil?
