Eight people involved in the mysterious outbreak have been hospitalized. No deaths have been reported. People started becoming ill March 2, and the patients range in age from 1 to 74 years old. Additional illnesses tied this outbreak may still be reported, the CDC said.

States reporting sick patients are Georgia (8 patients), Kentucky (36), Ohio (5), Tennessee (21) and Virginia (2).

Government scientists have not identified a food item, grocery store or restaurant chain as the source of these infections. The CDC, state health departments, the US Department of Agriculture's Food Safety and Inspection Service and the US Food and Drug Administration are investigating the outbreak

Keep letting diseased illegals cross the border, and you’ll be dealing with more than ebola.

yeah it’s a real ####ing mystery.

it’s a mystery as to why I need to lose 50 pounds.

Can’t figure it out for the life of me.

Because there’s no cause and effect in the world today.

Must be thyroid.

And must be a Swedish person brought the sickness here.

I know you were kidding but...

My thyroid did go into hypothyroid area and I finally convinced the doctor to give me pills ( she had to have my sports score as I call it in the accepted range so she won't get sued, I guess. I resent that.)

I need to lose at least 15 to 20 pounds but I cannot. I know it is the thyroid because my dieting was never this bad in my life. I eat less and exercise but I either stay the same, lose a pound, gain a pound, etc. Frustrating. I am not cheating. My dental hygienist (thyroid trouble, too) says maybe the hours of the day and night when taken affect it.

I want to lose 50 pounds. I do not blame the illegals carrying diseases or even space aliens doing it./s

I hear ya. I wasn't obese for less than a full year. When I was 10, we had a doctor do an oxygen uptake metabolism test, He put me on thyroid supplement.

I promptly slimmed down to a normal weight.

For one brief year, I wasn't the fattest kid in school!!!

Then we moved. The next Dr. did a PBI and declared there was nothing wrong with my metabolism, took me off thyroid meds. I promptly ballooned up to my old self.

Then we move again. Next Dr., new thyroid test, no, your labs are fine, no thyroid for you.

There we moved again. Next Dr., new and improved test, nope your labs are "normal" no supplements for you.

Then we moved yet again. New Dr. TSH is fine, you don't need any thyroid meds.

(All this time, my temperature was consistently 97.4°F, but nooooo that doesn't mean you have low metabolism. We're going to treat your lab results, not you, never you!)

Fast forward a score of doctors and 50 years.

Thyroid cancer, thank God!

Now I don't have a thyroid, and my endocrinologist has to prescribe thyroxine! All of the sudden, my body temperature is 98.6°F and I magically lost 30 lbs and I am no longer morbidly obese. Still fat, and he will NOT increase the dose, as he, like nearly every Dr. before him is treating the lab results...

I hear you. Been there. Starting years ago.

Sounds like this is news to you: MANY MANY have suffered incompetent medical care for hypothyroid.

Books have been written. A video made to share around on the subject by victims.

You will be overwhelmed by the proper SEARCH on the web.

I could name books, authors, doctors. where to begin except to say I sympathize.

-— for my current dr not endo, none decent around, went to bookstore amazed at number of books for general audience. copied pages to show him. still years and years to try to get dose increased.

-— see what you can find from web on Dr Holtorf and his clinic, Calif. What saved me was his interview on show on PeoplesPharmacy back 2013 IIRC. I learned about reverseT3, and that was a problem I had === who knew. Do the haha—doctors practicing!! know about that? My Synthroid was turning into that, blocking receptors for normal T3. Try a search on that and read all about it.

What has saved me is letting my dr hear what DrHoltorf said and also searching his site, at the time, which has changed a lot since then, and starting just T3 medicine. - - - - - - - - - Now I self medicate — nurse at drH said take as much as you need. Yes it is like a furnace that needs more in winter and less in summer. orrr depending if you are cold or hot then since . . .

Thanks for the detailed info.

But are you saying the thyroid cancer did not cause abnormal blood test results? Or do you mean the 50 years later development of cancer caused test results the doctor saw as indicative of thyroid cancer? As a “recovering hypochondriac” (my term I think) I need to know so I won’t worry.

I really hate the “medical practice by blood test” where a certain range I call a sports score has to show something or the doctor is afraid to act out of lawsuit fear.

Most patients know there is something wrong or a weird feeling before any test shows it. I had to argue with the doctor and say “So medical practice means you let me suffer for the two years I tried to convince you I had about 7 or 8 thyroid symptoms but you wouldn’t act until the lab numbers proved it? Yes, she said. She also made up excuses for non thyroid answers such as getting a little older.

One thing I read decades ago said a bunch of medical students were told here are examples of these volunteers but not one of them is “normal” and “average” on all the tests we’re discussing. There is no “normal” so they make up a range to go by.

No no no no. I was only able to find one doctor in 50 years who treated ME, the scores of other doctors I tried to get thyroid supplements from over that five decade period would only treat THE LAB RESULTS.

Think of where an insulin resistant diabetic would be if they only measured the insulin in the blood stream, and not blood glucose:

I'm sorry Mr. Smith about all these symptoms, excessive thirst, frequent urination, loss of feeling in your appendages, gangrene and amputations, blindness and kidney failure, your labs show perfectly normal insulin levels so you don't have diabetes. I can offer you no treatment beyond a wooden leg, a white cane and three days a week dialysis!
When I got thyroid cancer (BTW, if you must have cancer, I highly recommend papillary cancer of the thyroid, it's not very aggressive, treatment is simple, surgery in the afternoon, release from the hospital the next morning, and if you absolutely insist on chemo, I did, it's one pill, one time, and no children or women of childbearing age sitting on your lap for a week, sadly enough that was no change in my lifestyle *sigh*) they removed my thyroid and that FORCED the doctor to prescribe thyroid supplement.

Once I got a doctor to scale that impossibly high hurdle, getting the dose adjusted into a meaningful range was possible. Still working on getting it bumped up a bit more, as I'm still fat, but at least my temperature is normal.

For one thing, now when I present with a degree and a half of fever, it isn't dismissed as being "normal"...

And to answer your hypochondria question, the cancer did not have any effect on my labs. It was diagnosed by the presence of a lump on my throat, a certain hoarseness, and the growth of that lump. Confirmation by ultrasound, verification by pathology report on the removed thyroid.

I’m thankful they took out the cancer you had. God bless you.

I will continue fighting to get the right solutions and I appreciate the facts you supplied.

Maybe, along with prayers that it happens, the medical profession will learn enough to listen to us and treat what we tell them.

Until then we fight and stand up for ourselves as you did.

My neurologist doesn’t treat my thyroid but she told my it should be treated by symptoms and not numbers. I wish I could see her for everything.
