Today’s Cryptogram

S LSP BH KVQ QJA ROFXVZQ FN JBH

QJFVEJQH. UJSQ JA QJBPDH, JA KAZFLAH. –LSJSQLS ESPXJB

You can find this little fun word game, to combat early dementia and senility in us baby boomers, in several daily publications, unfortunately they are copyrighted so we can't use them here. So, we're just going to make up our own.

The way it works is a letter stands for another letter.

For example: AXYDLBAAXR is LONGFELLOW (does not apply to today's cryptogram).

Beware, the game is very addictive. If this is your first time, don't be intimidated.

PLEASE DO NOT post the answer in general comments, but DO post your time and any tips you might give the group on how you solve these puzzles as puzzle solvers love to hear how you made out.

You can certainly send your solution to my private reply, or if you need a hint for today’s Cryptogram.

If you're just starting out on these, be patient, as you'll be proficient in no time.

Solving the puzzle under 8 minutes is good, under 6 very good, under 4 excellent and under 2 "you're a pro!"

Those of you looking for an added challenge can try to solve one sentence or even one word at a time, i.e. solve the entire first line, then go to the second line etc.

If you need a little help you can copy the cryptogram and paste it to Hal’s Helper below:

You can then work on the puzzle without using pen and paper.

Today’s is from the Arkansas Gazette’s Cryptoquote that appears nationally. So, solving this gives you some added kudos.

While I appreciate the offer I'll pass.
Just up on a nature call and checked the news. Saw your puzzle, as I have many times, and decided to solve it before I went back to sleep.
Cryptograms are cool, but as you can see they're still pretty easy for me. Maybe when I get older, and as my brain fog increases, they will become more challenging.

Wow, that was super fast.
Thanks. I've always been good at them.

Check out the 4th and last words.

They weren't a problem for me.
I cracked the last word in the first sentence first.
Better letter distribution garnered through that crack.
The rest was easy after that.

Thank you for the kind message.

I’m seeing where scientists are claiming that you can increase your brain cells, as opposed to having all that you’re going to get at birth.

I don’t know. I’ve started taking one of the products that claims to increase your memory and mentation.

AS I get older, I find myself a bit dyslexic. I’ll write out a sentence, and instead of e.g. “KNOW” I write “NO”. OR instead of “WRITE” I wright “RIGHT” Just now I wrote “OUR” instead of “OUT”.

I have noticed that these CGs have helped me. I’ve been doing them daily since last Summer.

A lot of people message me that they’ve noticed some clarity in their word usage when they’re speaking and writing since they’ve improved on these. I don’t know.

BTW, did you read the private message I sent you?

Got ya. See my return mail.
As you say, I was a bit off. Filled it in 'on auto' without cross checking again.
A good reason not to do them when you're still half asleep.

I did this one half asleep, with a pencil. Still wrestling with whether to give up on sleep and have some coffee.

Sentence structure was key on this one. The first 3 words....I figured the first word, then a noun and a verb....I intuited those and the author became clear.

FWIW, about four years ago I did a Crypt almost ever day for over a year, even binge-Crypted on a book of them. It got very methodical to figure them out, but I'm not as quick as most others who are good at them.

Anyway, I'm back to doing them with this daily dose. At first, I'd lost some of that reasoning skill. But it came back in about a week. What's my point? Doing a Crpyt a Day, and the Brain Cells Won't Stray!

Slow today 6 minutes. True enough saying.
Started with the first word and hunted my way along today.

Feast or famine.
When I get them, they are finished before the cheap seats are filled, zipped through today like I was STILL a real pro...I basically had the first two words while first looking at todays puzzle..oh well...

Again, I seem to ‘lose interest’ if my first couple of guesses are incorrect....

Even going back the 2nd or 3rd time, I am ‘hung up’ with the same ‘mistake’ I had made earlier.

Funny...

About 2 minutes. The QJA and JA started me off, and then the first two words... yes, it’s definitely about language patterns for me.

Fifteen minutes. Using the first word, I got the first name of the author, which gave me the last name. The rest flowed from there.
