Biden to Ryan: 'Oh, Now You're Jack Kennedy?' [flashback]

In a quip destined to be one of the most memorable of Thursday night's vice presidential debate, Joe Biden jabbed Paul Ryan for seemingly comparing his political chops to those of the late President John F. Kennedy.

Ryan was in the process of arguing that it's possible to cut tax rates while keeping in place tax preferences for middle class Americans and growing the economy — something he said has been done before — when Biden cut him off.

"You can cut tax rates by 20% and still preserve these important preferences for middle class taxpayers," said Ryan, who was cut off by Biden.

"Not mathematically possible," said Biden.

"It is mathematically possible," responded Ryan. "It's been done before, it's precisely what we're proposing."

"It's never been done before," countered Biden.

"It's been done a couple of times. . .Jack Kennedy cut tax rates and increased growth," said Ryan, leading to Biden's quip: "Oh, now you're Jack Kennedy?"

The line echoed the 1988 vice presidential debate, when Democratic vice presidential candidate Senator Lloyd Bentsen famously told Republican vice-presidential candidate Senator Dan Quayle that he was "no Jack Kennedy:"

Paul Ryan expected a serious debate. Has he never met a Democrat before? Anyway, Biden trolled him through the whole debate and Ryan had no planned response. That too says a lot about Ryan and why he didn’t cut it as speaker either.

It was never a serious debate. The moderator would never step in to maintain order. Joe was smirking and snorting while Paul Ryan was speaking. It was up to Ryan to call him on it.

Ryan is a gentlemanly loser cut in the Mitt Romney fabric. We need fighters today, not gentlemanly losers.
