In a quip destined to be one of the most memorable of Thursday night's vice presidential debate, Joe Biden jabbed Paul Ryan for seemingly comparing his political chops to those of the late President John F. Kennedy.
Ryan was in the process of arguing that it's possible to cut tax rates while keeping in place tax preferences for middle class Americans and growing the economy something he said has been done before when Biden cut him off.
"You can cut tax rates by 20% and still preserve these important preferences for middle class taxpayers," said Ryan, who was cut off by Biden.
"Not mathematically possible," said Biden.
"It is mathematically possible," responded Ryan. "It's been done before, it's precisely what we're proposing."
"It's never been done before," countered Biden.
"It's been done a couple of times. . .Jack Kennedy cut tax rates and increased growth," said Ryan, leading to Biden's quip: "Oh, now you're Jack Kennedy?"
The line echoed the 1988 vice presidential debate, when Democratic vice presidential candidate Senator Lloyd Bentsen famously told Republican vice-presidential candidate Senator Dan Quayle that he was "no Jack Kennedy:"

Of course, the point of the lie was for Ryan to say the name Jack Kennedy so Biden could reply with the idiotic non-sequitur "Oh, now you're Jack Kennedy?" and throw back his head and laugh demonically like Jack Nicholson in The Shining.
I remember thinking that if I told my history teacher that the interstate highway system "has never been done before" and he said "Dwight Eisenhower implemented it in the 1950's", and then I laughed demonically and said "Oh so now you're Dwight D. Eisenhower" they'd probably take me out of class in a straight jacket.
Biden laughed like a loon through the whole night. He looked drugged. There was nothing serious about that debate.
Ryan made Biden look like a MENSA member.
The proper response: Stop it you’re embarrassing me DAD!” He should have been ready for it.
Yep.
IIRC, Gov Sarah Palin made “Joe” look like the dimwit he has always been.
Paul Ryan stinks so bad he smells like a fart of himself.
Stilll true, to many conservatives Jack Kennedy remains a minor saint in their history. Jack Kennedy was an imperfect man.
Biden has a history of making himself look like a fool. It is predictably a fatal flaw to his candidacy.
Just like in 2008.
If you can’t beat Biden in a debate, you don’t belong on a ticket.
I remember how shocked I was at how badly Ryan got his head handed to him
Joe Biden looked drunk and crazy. He was very disrespectful to Paul Ryan. It says a lot about Paul Ryan and the wussy that he is, that he could not be crazy, drunk uncle Joe in a debate.
Tin Foil Hat time: I predict that Ryan - in a surprise move - will jump into the 2020 Presidential race, against Trump.
I hope that’s wrong.
I didn't vote for Kennedy but I respected his Naval Service, and liked his approach to tax cuts and his standing up to the Russians.
His election was a fraud, bought and paid for by his daddy via his connections with the mafia.
Old Pappy Kennedy was a bootlegger during prohibition and used his mob contacts in Chicago to steal IL, WV and LJB steered TX to JFK.
I don't know who had Kennedy shot, my guess is was the mafia that believed they had bought influence in the White House and killed JFK out of a sense of vendetta.
It was a bizarre debate, if I recall. Biden laughing at what Ryan was saying, and Ryan completely unprepared on how to handle Revoltin’ Joe.
The consensus afterwards was that Biden had bested Ryan.
Paul Ryan did the job for Joe Biden. A true GOP Inc. Company Guy.
Ryan made Biden look like a MENSA member.
So true. There were a few that tried to defend Ryan but he was dominated by Crazy Joe.
I hope we’ve seen the last of GOPe Ryan. Our nation would have most of the wall needed by now if not for that weasel.
People in WI still won’t say why Ryan is so great in their analysis.
Ryan showed what a GOPE Republipussy looks like in that debate
