https://www.foxnews.com/politics/ali-watkins-past-tweets-come-back-to-haunt-nyt-reporter-amid-leak-case

On Thursday, the New York Times reported that federal investigators had seized years’ worth of Watkins’ email and phone records as part of a leak probe into James Wolfe, the former security director for the Senate Intelligence Committee indicted for giving false statements to FBI agents. Wolfe appeared for a federal court hearing in Baltimore on Friday, where he relinquished his passport and was prohibited from traveling outside of the District of Columbia and Maryland.

The indictment says Wolfe leaked information to reporters about the committee’s work, including its subpoena last fall of an individual believed to be former Trump adviser Carter Page.

But in several tweets in September 2017, Watkins, while dating Wolfe and working for Politico, seemed to point the finger at attorneys for President Trump over various media disclosures.

In the case of Wolfe, the former Senate aide is accused in the indictment of lying about his relationship with Watkins, identified in court papers as “REPORTER #2.”

Wolfe later admitted the relationship after he was shown photos of the two of them together, according to the indictment.

Prosecutors said Wolfe communicated with other journalists, too, and lied to the FBI in December 2017 about contacts he had with several reporters — including sharing non-public information about committee matters.

He is not charged with leaking classified information.

The indictment indicated Wolfe and Watkins exchanged tens of thousands of electronic communications and often daily phone calls, and they would meet at the reporter’s apartment.

On April 3, 2017, Watkins’ byline appeared on a BuzzFeed article that revealed that Page had met with a Russian intelligence operative in 2013

Nicholas Fandos(NYT) ‏

A law enforcement official familiar with the investigation says the computer in question was a controlled, off-network device in the Secret Service's Miami Field Office. Source says never any risk to the agency's computer network with regard to this thumb drive.

Ramses Goat ‏

This is a different take on the Secret Service handling of the malware infected USB drive found on the Chinese National trying to enter Mar-a-lago.

If it’s true that USSS agents used a network disabled, air-gapped laptop configured specifically for this task then yes, the malware would be sandboxed & walled off. Virtually imprisoned on that pc.

IF that malware contained high-threat exploits & sophisticated code, which seems to be the case, that pc will be handed over to the @NSAgov - & the weaponized code that came fr Chinese Mil/Intelligence will provide a treasure of information.

It might also prove to be the basis of future US Cyber Weapons developed from reverse engineering that malicious code. This was a big mistake by PRC.

That thumb drive, and USSS laptop, are going to find their way to a very classified US Govt laboratory.

But what about the phones? She had multiple cell 📱 phones w her. I gaurantee you their code/OS was altered as well.

The more i look at this, the more i think this was a PRC Intelligence operation; a cyber attack aimed directly at the President of the United States.

She wasn’t just a spy. This, if it’s what i think it is, could legally be considered an overt act of war. If i’m right, this will result in serious blow-back & in kind response(s).

Hope I remember to tune in. Some elected people really think that getting elected in a little district in this country, probably without much competition, makes them better and smarter than anyone.

WikiLeaks ‏

Ecuador: we just fired an official "close to Assange" for not being loyal.

Ecuadorian statement comes after a leak that it was planning to hand Assange over to be arrested, violating his asylum, after US pressure and inducements, within "hours to days".

Ramses Goat ‏

Except, they weren’t close to handing him over. He’s still there.

NIKK..I personally don't put much faith in wikiLeaks today.

We had the discussion ..it just didn't add up. Sounds like a set up. I HOPE!! Our President usually gets rid of someone once they accomplish a task and then he puts another in the position that's better at the next step.

1 VIRGINIA: IN THE CIRCUIT COURT FOR THE COUNTY OF ALBEMARLE DEVIN G. NUNES ) ) Plaintiffs, ) ) v. ) Case No. ) )
TRIAL BY JURY
THE MCCLATCHY COMPANY )
IS DEMANDED
ELIZABETH A. “LIZ” MAIR, ) ) -and- ) ) MAIR STRATEGIES, LLC ) ) Defendants. ) )
COMPLAINT

Plaintiff, Devin G. Nunes, by counsel, files the following Complaint against defendants, The McClatchy Company (“McClatchy”), Elizabeth A. “Liz” Mair (“Mair”), and Mair Strategies, LLC (“Mair Strategies”), jointly and severally. Plaintiff seeks (a) compensatory damages and punitive damages in an amount not less than
$150,000,000
, (b) prejudgment interest on the principal sum awarded by the Jury from May 23, 2018 to the date of Judgment at the rate of six percent (6%) per year pursuant to § 8.01-382 of the Virginia Code (1950), as amended (the “Code”), injunctive relief, and (d) court costs – arising out of defendants’ defamation
per se
and common law conspiracy.

2
I. INTRODUCTION
1. This is a case about character assassination and a public company that weaponized its powerful pen and used it as a terrible sword. 2. Throughout 2018, McClatchy and its reporter, MacKenzie Mays, acting in concert with a Virginia political operative and her handlers, schemed to defame Plaintiff and destroy his reputation. The central purpose of the scheme was to interfere with Plaintiff’s Congressional investigation of corruption by the Clinton campaign and alleged “collusion” between the Trump campaign and Russia during the 2016 presidential election.
1
Using the enormous power of McClatchy’s nation-wide resources, McClatchy
1
McClatchy is well-known for publishing false stories meant to advance the false narrative that associates of Donald J. Trump colluded with Russia to hack the 2016 presidential election. In April 2018, for instance, McClatchy published an article representing that Justice Department Special Counsel Robert Mueller had evidence that Donald Trump’s lawyer, Michael Cohen, secretly visited Prague during the 2016 presidential campaign. [https://www.mcclatchydc.com/news/politics-government/white-house/article208870264.html (“Mueller Has Evidence Cohen Was In Prague In 2016, Confirming Part Of Dossier”)]. The McClatchy story was presented as confirmation of an essential claim of the “Steele dossier” (a collection of allegations of collusion between Trump associates and Russia that were manufactured by a former British spy, Christopher Steele, cited in the most prominent accusations against the President’s team). According to the Steele dossier, Cohen was a leading figure in the Trump-Russia collusion/conspiracy. The dossier represents that Cohen went to Prague in 2016 to have a conspiratorial meeting with Russian officials about the Kremlin’s campaign to hack the 2016 U.S. presidential election. McClatchy’s story about Cohen was not confirmed by
any
other media outlet, and Mueller’s indictment of Cohen did not allege Cohen had this meeting in Prague or that he conspired with Russians at all to hack the U.S. election. McClatchy further attempted to defend the dossier’s veracity with a follow-up piece claiming Cohen’s cell phone had sent signals off cell towers in the Prague vicinity. [https://www.mcclatchydc.com/news/investigations/article219016820.html (“Cell signal puts Cohen outside Prague around time of purported Russian meeting”)]. Once again, no other media outlet could confirm the McClatchy story, which, like the previous story, was thoroughly contradicted by both Mueller’s Cohen indictment and Mueller’s final Report. [

The Special Counsel’s investigation did not find that the Trump campaign or anyone associated with it conspired or coordinated with Russia in its efforts to influence the 2016 U.S. presidential election.
