Avocados recalled in 6 states over listeria concerns
CNN ^ | March 24, 2019 | Amanda Jackson,

The recalled products included California-grown conventional and organic avocados. They were packed at Henry Avacado's facility in California and distributed to six states: Arizona, California, Florida, New Hampshire, North Carolina and Wisconsin. Henry Avocado, a family owned and managed company, started packing in this facility in late January 2019 and every shipment is subject to the recall.

Henry Avacado said it is contacting its retail customers to confirm the recalled products have been pulled from the shelves. The company advises consumers to check the stickers on their avocados. The recalled products have "Bravocado" stickers. Henry Avocado organic products do not carry the "Bravocado" label on the sticker. Instead, those products are labeled "organic" and include "California" on the sticker. If this is the case, retailers can identify Henry Avocado organic products by the bar code on the stickers.

Henry Avocado urges consumers to discard or return the products to the place they were purchased for a refund.

Not Texas? With Bobby O'Rourke's homemade avocados I would have expected them to be recalled too.

Gee, California has a pubic defecation problem. California is a sanctuary state for people who do not wash for year on end. There just might be a connection between being a sh1th0le state and having sh1th0le diseases on food grown and processed in the state?!

“Organic” is just another word for manure. Of course the non-organic are going to get contaminated if they process them in the same facility.

So true, I did a study about 15 years ago looking at Chickens eggs both from “Free Range” and those enclosed “evil” barns where the chickens were in cages. The ones in the enclosures were tested regularly for disease, and only breathed filtered air. Then any signs of disease were cleared. While the Free Range chickens wandered around the Fields, were in contact with all sorts of vermin, not tested.

Stay away from Organic and especially free range chickens

Mexican avocados bought bulk and imported and rebranded and repacked for the U.S. market, all the while infected with listeria? Never buy ANYTHING from Mexico!

Had a Mexican avocado this afternoon on triscuits with hot sauce. It was superb!

My bad. Turns out the avocados being recalled are not from Mexico: https://ktla.com/2019/03/24/escondido-company-recalling-california-grown-avocados-in-6-states-amid-listeria-outbreak/

“Stay away from Organic and especially free range chickens”

That sort of hyperbole is just as bad as recalling Avocados for a bacterium that most people have in their fridge.

People need to get a grip. I’d rather eat eggs & vegetables that have chicken shit and manure on them than the contaminated garbage that comes out of a factory farm.

Your study was obviously biased in one or more ways, presumably beyond your control. Our sterile society is partly to blame for the health landscape. To be clear, there is no sterilizing raw foods.

It’s a patently-ridiculous expectation by folks who are being groomed to be hypochondriacs.

To be clear, these Avocados were recalled due to “fears of contamination” due to “environmental tests” by government employees. Holy cow.

What do people expect when you allow invaders from sh**hole countries without any sense of hygiene and often with strange infections to be food handlers? Today’s NSS (No Sh** Sherlock) Award goes to those who set the recall.

Listeria is a particularly nasty bacterium.

Most bacteria wont or can’t reproduce at fridge temps, say 50F or less.

Except Listeria!

Here’s the deal: This isn’t Romaine or Cilantro, it’s an Avocado. A fruit with a skin. I wash organic food of unknown origin and merely rinse that which comes from my own garden.

We live in an unusual age in which a generation is being groomed as hypochondriacs and who will also be more susceptible to environmental bugs which are normally well-tolerated by a healthy person. I believe that the dichotomy is avoidable.

People who have kids need to ditch the ‘sterile’ thinking now. Everyone else? Well, you just have to play the cards you’re dealt at this point, knowing full well that you have the benefit of 3-4 wildcards. That should speak volumes.

This recall is a hysterical response. People would do well to remember to wash their raw foods, peel or not, as opposed to letting the cards play themselves and playing Litigious Monopoly.

Agree 100%. I remember back when Michael Jackson was a live and he was going around with that surgical mask to protect himself from germs. I predicted he'd be dead by 40.

OK, so I was 10 years off. But my point is that I'm in my mid-50s and have never been healthier. I'm a fairly hygienic person but I don't obsess over washing my produce. I horrify my wife when I grab an apple off a tree or a handful of strawberries right out of the package I buy them in.

It's always been my theory that your immune system needs to constantly "work out" to be in top-notch condition. If you give your immune system too much of a rest, it loses its ability to fight off germs, much like a football team will lose its edge if the coach allows them to loll around on the practice field.

Ok, I agree with you EXCEPT we know there is some nut-job out there who just chucks his whole, unpeeled avocados into a blender and sucks it down.

So this response is kind of a least-common denominator type thing...
