One, it is well known that the armed forces have problems with worn out equipment, so anything that can be done to make sure our warriors have the basics for fighting is a good thing. Two, would Russia or China want to win a conventional war with America? Between the proverbial gun behind every blade of grass and the inner city gangs, they couldn’t keep the US secure from across an ocean if they tried.
Even if eliminating the “touchy-feely sensitivity training and GLBTQXYZ outreach and support programs” and the trannie coddling didn’t save a single dime, that alone would do wonders for military morale and capability. Getting the mission back to “breaking things and killing people” and sacking the feather merchants would restore our once-great military at zero cost.
What they did to the B-25’s Mitchell’s that bombed Japan.
Works great unless you get fighters on your tail.
That said, War will not follow a computer simulation.
Now will climate.
LOL...yeah, another classic.
A few bosses ago, our new SVP of Sales posted “Change and Grow” outside his office. It became the mantra. He was very energetic. No matter how much he preached “Change” we really didn’t, the products were outdated, and we continued to shrink. He lasted a bit more than a year.
In I.T. we call this "root cause analysis" and done properly and well, usually delivers amazing results. I'm one of the people left at the large multi-national bank I work for that happens to excel in it due to my 35+ years in the field and actually liking that type of work. You'd be amazed at how sometimes the most simple, basic changes deliver big results.
There are also times where herculean efforts are required to "fix things" which involve process, technology and occasionally swapping people out to make the process changes required.
As someone noted above, people tend to get stuck in the "we've always done it this way" rut where change becomes far more difficult than it needs to be. In those cases, getting those people out of the way is required. Hate doing it, but if someone refuses to change, off they go to another system, project, or out of the bank entirely if necessary.
I kind of see this entire military exercise in the same sort of light. Of course, I have zero military experience so I could be 1,000% wrong. (Wouldn't be the first time, ask my GF.)
It seems the simulation assumes nukes won’t be used. Using nukes against key enemy military targets is likely a key part of our counter attack strategy and bolsters the capabilities of our conventional forces.
True. Who was it that said something like "the best laid plans go to waste once the first bullet is fired" or something like that?
With anyone else from our two parties as CiC, no. Our politicians are worthless, and none of them are leaders.
I agree Trump would be a better CiC, however I disagree that Lib politicians could not successfully command our military during a war.
I believe the difference between Trump as CIC and say Bernie is in the number of lives lost.
Democrats are ruthless people. The lives of individuals are meaningless to them. To the Democrats it would be win at any cost. Lives on either side are of no consequences.
With a Democrat in charge of a full on war expect the eligible draft age to be reach the 50+ range.
Nukes won’t be used. They weren’t used in Korea or Vietnam for good reasons. You better pray we never cross that threshold.
Rand = Total Hogwash. They somehow know that spending $750 billion annually just isn’t enough, but $774 Billion would be? This study implies massive waste in US defense spending, if the US can’t beat countries that spend a tiny percentage of what we do. Either fix the gaps by repurposing 3% out of the vast amount of waste and theft, or cut the defense budget by 80% if we are going to lose anyway. We can go back to triumphing over Grenada.
War is a racket.
British wishful thinking
**SNORT!** Been there, done that earlier in my career. I actually once heard "we won't have a disaster if you simply don't let the systems go down!"
Told me everything I needed to know about the company I was working for. Found a different role OUTSIDE of that company as fast as I could. Their plans were to simply work me to death and then blame me if something went wrong.
Nope. Not. Gonna. Do. It.
Like you, I have zero military experience, but the military was long known as the organization most resistant to change. That’s why the adage “they are always fighting the last war.”
What’s amazing is how fast the military got on board with all the social experiments and perversions when, on the face of it, they did nothing but cause morale to deteriorate and offered no upside.
War III breaks out. First five minutes we take out leaders of China and Putin with nuclear blasts . Game over.
Riiiight....
You Free Traitors like your nukes don't you?
Yep, most places I was at it was a new slogan - at least during the 1990’s.
The hilarious thing was so many had the same dumb look on their face as they tried the same thing as places I’d been before did. They REALLY thought they were geniuses.
One favorite (not really) was their idea to get ONE guy to do the job THREE people would normally do.
And then pay them sub-market rates (low by at least 25%-33% or more if a consultant) and then micro-manage them.
When I laughingly told them that wouldn’t work or last even if they found somebody, I got the frowny-face.
No, it never happened. The company no longer exists because they made other, incredibly-stupid decisions, costing millions of dollars.
They eventually had to change the name. It will never recover to what it once way. They went liberal SJW and couldn’t figure out why their products weren’t selling.
Cyber-war is where it's at. It's all about taking out the financial systems, power generation systems, water, interrupting food supplies, etc.. and making a country implode upon itself.
Of course a rogue country like Iran for example may change that, however our "war" with China and Russia is all cyber now. Anything using our military presence in other countries is nothing more than a physical show of force and IMO will not escalate beyond that.
