Harpers ‘record breaking’ contract didn’t even last a month!
That is more than all the high school teachers make in NJ.
Only in America!
I wonder if he’s a democrat. If so he needs to give up 80% of that money to taxes.
16 years ago, the Angels were purchased for $200 million
Mike deserves it. He’s the Mickey Mantle of our times.
That’s over twice as much as I make. :D
Hell never be able to spend all that before the world ends ...
My self-centered side is glad he will only be facing the Rays seven times a season, rather than 19 if NYY or the BoSox had bought him.
Rays up!
I don’t really follow sports anymore but I read a MSM article complaining that he wasn’t a showy player (like flipping his bat after a home run) and that baseball needed stars like him to be like those in football and basketball. Also, he wasn’t big into marketing himself like he needed to be.
I'm a little surprised Trout didn't want to go to a more dynamic team, and get in on some of the playoff glory. He's a sure Hall of Famer wherever he plays, so the only thing he's really missing is that World Series ring. And they can't include that in a contract. At any price.
Baseball star Mike Trout will make $430 million
Sickening, pro sports is dead to me.
I say good for Trout. Sure we can argue over whether any athlete is worth this kind of money, and where Trout will be in terms of performance in five years - eight years - ten years (think the Angles would have learned something from the Josh Hamilton and Albert Pujols contracts) from now. OTOH, in five years this could look like a bargain.
Whatever the traffic will bear.
All these best be hoping the bubble doesn’t burst......
Los Angeles Angels center fielder Mike Trout is close to finalizing a more
than $430 million, 12-year contract the largest in U.S. professional sports
history a person familiar with the negotiations told The Associated Press.
The reported $432 million deal comes weeks after Bryce Harper agreed to a
record-breaking, 13-year $330 million deal with the Philadelphia Phillies
and surpasses the record once held by Arizona Diamondbacks Zack Greinke,
who signed a six-year contract that nets him $34,416,667 a year.
Trout’s contract, which will supersede the remaining two years of his
existing contract and keep the 27-year-old in Anaheim until 2030, will
score him $35,830,000 a year. Trout’s former six-year contract was
for $144.5 million.
Amazing!
Run those banks. 8>)
Angels Games have had some relatively cheap seats, like $8.00 and $12.00. I hope the new salary does not make attending a game in person non-feasible for a family to do a couple times a season.
And some who know me wonder why I've sworn off pro sports these past years.
