Baseball star Mike Trout will make $430 million

Major League Baseball doesn’t market its individual players as much as leagues like the NBA and NFL, so a lot of people might not have heard of Mike Trout. But he’s been arguably the best player in baseball for over five years, and now he’s the highest-paid athlete in the country.

Trout, 27, is set to sign a contract extension that will pay him a total of over $430 million until he’s 39 years old. Born in New Jersey, Trout was picked by the Angels in the first round in 2009. He was AL rookie of the year in 2012 and has been an All-Star seven times, baseball’s MVP twice, and he’s finished second in MVP voting four times.

Yep. We pay $5 for parking and somewhere around $15 for seats a couple rows up from the third base dugout. That’s the shady side, and it MATERS during he sunny days. :)

We’ve been to Quakes games, when they were an Angels affiliate. Now the Angels affiliate is the 66ers, I believe. The minor league game was not bad, but the conferences on the mound are a lot longer and more frequent than in a pro game because, I think, the players are in learning mode and the coaches are actively out there educating them during the game.

You display massive ignorance.

Not ignorance. Just a joke that only works in some circles. :)

Any one who judges a player by post season games is one dimensional.

You are correct. Otherwise, the Hall of Fame would have to cancel the membership of Ken Griffey, Jr., Ernie Banks, Billy Williams, Rod Carew, Ferguson Jenkins, Frank Thomas, Gaylord Perry, Ron Santo, and others. None of whom appeared in the World Series.

Even surrounded by talent, a player might miss out on the World Series. Note that Banks, Williams, Santo, and Jenkins were the core of the great Cub teams of the late 1960s but they never made it to a World Series.

There are also all-time greats who have pretty mediocre post-season statistics. Ted Williams is the classic example. Teddy Ballgame's statistics in the regular season are among the best ever. His post-season statistics consist of 7 games in one World Series appearance where he batted .200 with 5 hits (all singles) and one RBI.

A dimension that Trout will never get to.

MLB is available on a wide variety of platforms. MLB does not depend on being part of broad cable packages. It’s already mostly available a la carte.

Pro athletes pay state taxes in every state in which they appear. One reason league minimums are so high; it’s a tax nightmare.

Baseball star Mike Trout will make $430 million

And some who know me wonder why I've sworn off pro sports these past years.

Mantle didn’t play in the 1930s.

Speaking of The Babe, I’m reading a nice biography of him now, “The Big Bam,” by Leigh Montville. Quite enjoyable.

The Texas Air Hogs plays in Grand Prairie (DFW area) and is a big favorite with its fans. Great for families. I think they started around 2007.

If Mike Trout continues to perform at or near his current level into his mid-30’s he will be considered by many people to be the greatest of all time. Even if he tails off as he ages and/or starts getting hurt a lot, as many superstars do, he will still be a Hall of Famer.

If anyone in baseball is worth that kind of money, it’s Trout.

The Texas Air Hogs

One of the attractions of baseball farm teams is the unique team names they choose....
