Former Tonight Show host Jay Leno has some choice words for the current generation of late night hosts. In an interview with NBCs Today, Leno lamented the current state of late night shows, which he believes have gone downhill now that everyone has to know your politics. The comedian went on to say that hed like television to bring back a bit of civility, as he believes shows have become too serious for viewers. While the likes of Stephen Colbert and Samantha Bee may disagree, Leno has at least one supporter: on Wednesday morning, President Trump praised the longtime hosts remarks on Twitter, saying that the one-sided hatred on these shows is incredible. When asked if he misses being on The Tonight Show, which he hosted for over 20 years (over two different stints), Leno was clear that he does not. No, its different. I dont miss it, he told Todays Al Roker. You know, everything now is, if people dont like your politics, they everyone has to know your politics. Leno explained that he followed the model set by Johnny Carson, his Tonight Show predecessor, and it seemed to work. I kind of used Johnnys model. People couldnt figure it out. Well, you and your Republican friends or Well, Mr. Leno, You and your Democratic buddies,' he said. And I would get hate mail from both sides equally. And I went, Thats fabulous. Thats exactly what I want.'

I miss Johnny Carson...
Not that we should be surprised, but Jay is getting eviscerated on Twitter etc.
I could have said the same thing back fifteen years ago. You could tell that late night TV was transforming itself into a wasteland. There’s not a single late night host today....who can stand in Johnny Carson’s shadow.
The Ministry of Propaganda will not permit another like Leno or Carson.
Leno is absolutely correct. But it is not just the hosts themselves - its the echo chamber that is their peers and industry, and complete ideological uniformity of alphabet media management
No one disagrees with them. They have little concern that anything might be wrong.
He’s right..Leno would tell Obama jokes during Obama’s 8 years and commie NBC canned him..cant have anyone poking fun at the messiah..meanwhile you can say the most DISGUSTING things about President Trump and the commie media laughs
Yep these so called comedians are required to be liberal, and to blast Trump and Republicans/conservatives.
Carson was political, especially in the latter years of the Tonight Show. But it wasn’t in your face.
Plus, Leno is on Tim Allen’s Last Man Standing and, although his character is not shown leaning Left nor Right, SJW’s probably think he’s guilt by association (with Allen’s character)...
It’s not just late night shows.
Started watching the series “The Order” on netflix. They held Michelle Obama up as a hero and bashed Republicans. Why is that necessary? It added absolutely nothing to the story.
I ignored it, even forgot which characters said it, otherwise, I’d be hoping that all the main characters get killed off with extreme violence and prejudice.

My recollection is slightly different.
For a few years of the Fraud’s illegal reign, Leno did not make jokes about the Fraud, and I remember him being quoted as saying that there was nothing about him to joke about.
Until it looks like about 2013....

Then he lasted less than a year...
“After The Jay Leno Show was canceled in January 2010 amid a host controversy, Leno returned to host The Tonight Show with Jay Leno on March 1, 2010.[2] He hosted his last episode of The Tonight Show on February 6, 2014.”

Boy, do I missed Jay Leno.
IIRC, Jay was fired for stating he didn’t support Obama somewhere.
....And WHO by the way is that?
Thanks, that clears up the cobwebs.

Johnny Carson On Discussing Politics
Nails it from even back then.
Classic Carson joke:
Johnny: Boy, it was cold outside this morning...
Ed: How cold was it?
Johnny: It was so cold, I saw a Democrat with his hands in his own pockets.
Might have been a jokewriter. Do these shows even employ jokewriters anymore?
They do, but they all work at the DNC.
