Freshman Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez is now pushing the idea of automation, and being more excited about the idea of automation taking over American workforce.
Fast Company reported that robots have put half a million people out of work in the United States, and researchers estimate that bots could take 800 million jobs by 2030. But New York congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez says that widespread automation is an exciting propositionas long as some kind of government safety net is in place to equitably help the people who are displaced.
Appearing at the SXSW conference Saturday, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) said people should be excited by the prospect of robots taking their jobs because it will afford them more time to pursue their creative passions.
Ocasio-Cortez speculated fears over automation stem from a lack of financial safety net and economic uncertainty. We should not be haunted by the specter of being automated out of work, the self-avowed democrat-socialist said, according to Fast Company. We should not feel nervous about the tollbooth collector not having to collect tolls. We should be excited by that. But the reason were not excited about it is because we live in a society where if you dont have a job, you are left to die.
The freshman congresswoman floated a proposal by billionaire and Microsoft founder Bill Gates to tax robots at 90 percent to make up workers lost income from automation. Whether its a tax rate, whether its distributing wealth thats created by automation if we approach solutions to our systems and start entertaining ideas like that, then we should be excited about automation because of what it could potentially mean, she said.
Ocasio-Cortez then mused that with adequate policies in place, introducing more robots into the workforce could allow society more time to dabble in art and science, and actually increase the pace of innovation, freeing up more time enjoying the world we live in.
Not all creativity needs to be bonded by wage, she said to loud applause.
As Ocasio-Cortez alluded to in her remarks, the vast majority of Americans are opposed to robots replacing them in certain work settings.
Breitbart News John Binder reported:
About 85 percent of Americans said they support the federal government putting restrictions on the types of jobs that employers can automate, like dirty and dangerous jobs, supporting an economic nationalist agenda when it comes to the issue, Pew Research polling has found.
Nearly 60 percent of Americans said the federal government should place limits on the number of jobs in which a business can replace a U.S. worker with a machine. About 70 percent of the countrys working class, those with or without a high school degree, agree that the mass displacement of American workers through automation should be stopped with regulation by the federal government.
Those benefitting from increased legal immigration levels and massive job automation are corporate executives, Wall Street, real estate investors, big business, and multinational conglomerates that would enjoy a flooded labor market with reduced wages, more workers, fewer labor costs, added residents who need housing, and additional consumers to buy their products.
The mass importation of legal immigrants mostly due to President George H.W. Bushs Immigration Act of 1990, which expanded legal immigration levels diminishes job opportunities for the roughly four million young American graduates who enter the workforce every year wanting good-paying jobs.
In the last decade alone, the U.S. admitted ten million legal immigrants, forcing American workers to compete against a growing population of low-wage foreign workers. Meanwhile, if legal immigration continues, there will be 69 million foreign-born residents living in the U.S. by 2060. This would represent an unprecedented electoral gain for the Left, as Democrats win about 90 percent of congressional districts where the foreign-born population exceeds the national average.
Thus $100,000 cows in plexiglass.
Painters, sculptors, and others who work with their hands need not apply.
NY & PR (Puerto Rico) have produced some of the most idiotic people this world has ever seen.
America must really be the land of opportunity if she can rise to such a position of incompetence.
Imagine AOC’s bedwetting if the Concorde was still flying transatlantic....

The inner cities are not filled with people pursuing their creative and artistic passions, although they are financially secure (i.e. not starving), thanks to wealth redistribution handouts. If Ocasio-Cortez were the least bit observant of the world around her, she would know that. Furthermore, she would have an inkling of what really happens when people have no work. They feel useless. They turn to substance abuse. They engage in criminal behavior. They have problems with depression. Making even more people dependent on government handouts is not going to lead to a blissful utopia in which people pursue creative pastimes. In order for people to feel they have meaningful lives, they must have a productive way to spend their time.
I think this idiot Communist is going to be considered a moderate Democrat in a year or so.
We should be able to find a candidate from among these stupid bots, that is cerebrally challenged enough to be able to easily qualify to take over AOC's seat in congress, as well as her role as today's premier, grand-idiotic-pronouncement-generator...

Another good one. She’s putting dumb Blondes out of business.
And where do they get the money for this creativity time?
You beat me to it ... but you’re absolutely right. Fagen said it better, earlier, and with pitch-perfect acoustics.
