Many Californians are gearing up to spring their clocks forward for daylight saving time this Sunday but a ballot measure passed in November could make this time switch the states last.
Proposition 7, approved by 60 percent of voters in November and sponsored by Assemblyman Kansen Chu, D- San Jose, repealed the 1949 initiative that started daylight saving time in California. The proposition also allows for state Legislature to adjust the states daylight saving time, whether it be by a couple days or all year.
If signed by the governor, the bill will bring California closer to abolishing the outdated practice of switching our clocks in the fall and spring, Chu told The Sacramento Bee in June.
But the change isnt permanent yet. Two things are required before Californians can do away with daylight saving time altogether: a bill to pass the state Legislature and to obtain federal authorization through a majority vote in Congress, according to Annie Pham, a member of Chus staff.

But, no.
The politicians will pass bills keeping us on DST permanently.
Commie dimwits. And that includes Rubio in the Senate.
And ALL other politicians who opine on this matter. We don't want permanent DST.
W3e want a return to STANDARD TIME!!
Go ahead Cali. Separate yourselves just a little bit further from the rest of the country. Imagine the expense and confusion created for airline and train schedules to name just 2.
Since they don’t get up till noon, what difference does it make? ;)
AOC is for continuing fall back annually and eliminating the spring forward.
I thought AOC has a space program plan to land on the Sun because if you land at night you can do it./s
Then she can make the Sun turn on and off at the right times like the source of our power: the wall switches. Off and on. So simple.
Rubio is representing Florida.
We want more light in the evenings.
So adjacent non DST Arizona will be a permanently 2 hours time difference from California. ( do I have that right?)
Agreed. One of the dumbest things ever invented and they want to make it permanent, not surprising I guess with California.
There has never been a 2 hours differential between AZ and CA.
No, just one hour different, in the winter, if California stayed on DST permanently.
I’m all for it, as other states may follow, and we’d abolish time changing altogether.
If it’s too dark in the morning, or evening to do things....CHANGE THE TIME YOU DO THEM, DON’T MAKE ALL OF CHANGE OUR CLOCKS!
The two times associated with daylight savings time will be replaced with 64 separate times to reflect the self identity of California’s 64 unique regions.
Each zone will have a time suited to its feelings.
9 a.m., don't exaggerate. We don't get up until 9 a.m.
We are already at least one century ahead of them intellectually.
Early darkness is depressing. Let there be EVENING DAYLIGHT!!! (Or at least a compromise: the whole country springs forward 1/2 hour, and then we leave it there permanently. You can have you miserable early darkness a mere half hour later.)
Year round DST was tried back in the 1970s when Milhouse was president.
The sun came up at 8:45...
Time is relative.
