Michael Jackson's music appears to have been dropped from BBC Radio 2's playlists following new child sex abuse claims. The decision is reported to have been made last week ahead of Channel 4 News's documentary about the star's alleged crimes, Leaving Neverland, which will be broadcast this week. In the programme, the Sunday Times reports that James Safechuck, 40, and Wade Robson, 36, claim they were sexually assaulted and raped while children by the pop star after being groomed over a number of years.

About time.

Of course this ban is coming from the same organization that covered up for Jimmy Savile all those years.

Yup. Better get your secret stash of music and movies (John Wayne!) before AOC confiscates them.

Why? Is his music going to upset you?

Apparently, “Beat It” had a different meaning to him.

IIRC, some parents were more than happy to sell, er, let their kids stay at the Sickboy Mansion

My Senior Center still plays this stinking pervert’s music. Just knowing what this pig did to children gets me sick. When I complain about it to the front desk, all they say is that it’s just music.

Not defending him, at all, but how does anyone know who is looking to sue the estate vs true victims?

Free speech no longer exists....and it’s retroactive now, too.

And we have conservatives here who are happy his music is suppressed. The same idiots who tell me that John Wayne is a bad guy ‘cause he didn’t serve in WWII. (Which is not to compare the creepy Jackson to the great Wayne, of course. Only to despair of people who cannot distinguish between the “art” and the person.)

Once upon a time your comment would have been hyperbolic. Now it is predictive. Once streaming becomes dominant and physical media becomes a hobby for the minority (like me), just think how easy it will be for some cabal to declare that some person, tv show or movie is “offensive” and they all agree to remove it from their platforms.

It will be the modern version of Stalin editing people out of pictures.

This isn’t about something MJ said. This is about what he did.

So? Don’t buy his music. But don’t stop others from enjoying it.

You probably didn’t like the taking down of Confederate statues, right? THis is the same thing.

I’ll throw in a Michael Jackson and raise the BBC with a Jimmy Savile.

We’re here already. The next phase is invading our homes to remove our music and movies.

... however when you read the article the BBC says the headline is not true. In any event the headline does help generate internet hits.

I thought he was a creep decades before he died. I don’t have any of his music and if I happened to be listening to something that played it (unlikely) I’d turn the dial.

It is the precedent that worries me. Once it is decided it is okay to ban music (Jackson) or tv shows (Cosby) because of what the artists did outside of their genres (should we ban the Naked Gun films? After all, O. J. Simpson is in them and he was found responsible for the deaths of two people), I worry it opens Pandora’s Box.

I suppose so. Rosemary’s Baby and Chinatown aren’t going anywhere, Roman Polanski notwithstanding.
