YouTube: Michelle Yeoh Addresses Gender Diversity at 2019 Oscars | E! Red Carpet & Award Shows

While actors and actresses are routinely voicing their support for racial and gender quotas in Hollywood,Malaysian actress Michelle Yeoh told E!s Giuliana Rancic that she does not want to see movies and actors nominated for awards just because of their race or gender.
I think this year there were a few women roles that were really outstanding. And we really need more and more of them, Yeoh said. I was just disappointed that there were no women directors nominated. But its hard. Because it is so competitive. I think a lot of the time, lets not nominate because we need to make up the numbers for the gender or the diversity, we have to do it because the movie and all the characters speak for what it..

Thanks Reily.
I got season 1 on DVD. Giving it a chance.
Doesnt seem to have too many, Star Trek-ish, plots in them. Closest one was with Mudd and the time loop episode.
::shaking my head at all the FReepers who think Michelle Yeoh is stunning::
She’s pretty. The thing is, because as more and more Americanas become gross, fat, gross, tattooed, gross, unkept, gross, blue haired, classless, gross and fat fuggos, average looking women, by default, have an inflated value. This also skews the dating pool.
Is Michelle Yeoh stunning? No. But put her next to a standard distribution of females at a...Target or Starbucks or..., and relatively speaking, shes stunning by default.
Facts, not opinions.
Like I said. One big liberal Circle Jerk Club.
Absolutely. I wasthisclose to going to see The Mule, but passed. I have no desire to go to the actual movie theater anymore.
Now who was it that talked about culling the herd and gross, fat fuggos?
In before CH. I wonder if he reads my stuff?

You are on to something about how beauty now is judged based on how horrible many Americans look.
I also do NOT like the pasty, think, breast-less female stars of today. Give me Raquel, Gina, Sofia, Jayne, and Marylin any day.
Good for Ms. Yeoh.
It’s a shame she’s about to be called ‘racist’, and blacklisted every which way.
Agreed and well said simpson96.
Thank you and amen.
Its like grade inflation in school: A non obese, non tattooed, non blue/pink/purple/crimson/etc. colored haired, non sweat/yoga pants (or even worse, pajama) wearing woman automatically looks (very) desirable, even if shes an old school 5 or 6.
Ill add (in her prime) Claudia Cardinale to your bountiful beauties list.
Twenty years ago when I was on the James Bond newsgroup, which actually had the producers reading it, I complained that Yeoh was the hardest-looking Bond Girl ever cast (this opposite Pierce Brosnan) and had non-existent chemistry with him. I may (or may not) have been responsible for the suggestion to cast Denise Richards for “The World Is Not Enough”, as she was a very hot property at the time (coming off of “Wild Things” and “Starship Troopers”). Although I could watch her read the phone book, she was not well-received in her part (I believe she was nominated for a Razzie).
Well said FRiends :)
Hey man!
Close to perfect...
Hey, when a reasonably attractive woman says something they agree with, peeps here are gonna drool over her (and conversely when a beauty is libtarded idiot her flaws are more easily seen).
It helps that Asian women age well. “Stunning” is a big stretch but she looks pretty good to me. As a teenage boy I was unethused over her in Bond and liked Teri Hatcher (my dingling was racist!). In retrospect her character was good even if she didn’t have sexual chemistry with Bronsnan (and Hatcher was miscast).
Richards? That dog? (lol old wound there) She was hot (Sophie M was number 1 in that movie) but that tacked on ridiculous character was ridiculous. Oh look a random super model nuclear scientist. Makes Tanya Roberts character seem credible.
It would be cool though if your comments WERE the reason she was cast, neat possibility.
Actually, I really HATED “The World Is Not Enough.” I’ve only seen it 1 1/2 times (contrast that with “Goldfinger”, which I’ve probably seen 25 times). I was never a fan of Teri Hatcher, I thought she was a nitwit. I enjoyed her character she played on “Seinfeld”, but that was it.
How much Discovery have you seen? Just the pilot?
I’m pirating season 2 now. SPOILER ALERT
I’m through the ep where Wilson Cruz comes back to life.
Some thoughts.
They should call this “The Search for Spock”, they faked out on him appearing twice already. Honestly I have little interest in revisiting Spock. Especially not in this bizarre plotline they got going on. They are fetishizing Spock. It’s neat seeing more of his parents though.
“Michael” said she said something horrible to him to get him to stay away from her cause she was afraid the “logic extremists” who tried to kill her (for being a human at a Vulcan school) would harm him. So no she didn’t screw him. There’s a shot of an upcoming ep of her smooching a bearded guy but it’s that Klingon transhuman bastard Voq.
I don’t like “Michael” very much, many are in the same boat, that’s obviously a major problem with the show. I liked Yeoh’s original character, she was no where near Genivere Bujold to me. The evil version is a treat.
I don’t know what to make of Anson Mount as Capn Pike, a character that could use a closer look. Enterprise being busted and out of commission for an extended period is a pretty flimsy reason to have him onboard. At first he was in Uni reminiscent of TOS. So we’re in a “Star Trek Generations” style thing with multiple unis in service at the same time, weird.
Do the writers want the audience to hate the “prime directive”? Seriously, eff the prime directive.
I thought the “Magic Mushroom” stuff couldn’t get dumber. I was wrong. The recent stuff with the mushroom universe was interesting enough but absurd. I need to come up with a corollary to “Clarke’s first law”.
Wilson Cruz was actually the ship’s doctor so he does not exist solely as Rapp’s BF (contrast the gay aliens husband on The Orville who doesn’t appear to have a job). To my surprise I didn’t mind the character, I like him better than Rapp that’s for sure.
I like Section 31, the Federation pansies need them.
The Chubby girl Tilly has been called “Wesley done right” and I agree with that assessment.
That whole description just makes me cringe. It’s not Star Trek whatsoever. They should’ve just done some sci-fi sodomite soaper utterly unrelated to the Trek universe instead of this abortion.
Just Season 1. I’ll wait until Season 2 is over and then I’ll have my husband do a free trial and then binge watch it.
So, watched the latest episodes, time travel absurdity is factoring into to this season of Discovery. Might explain the “non-canon”y feel.
Mike finally found Spock, inexplicably beared and mumbling like a nutcase the coordinates to....the planet Talos IV. WTF? I presumed this would have been BEFORE the Enterprise visited there, maybe not.
“Number One” made a cameo, played by Rebecca Romijn.
And guess what? Yeoh is getting a Section 31 spinoff.
