Be honest, straight men: You all want to know what women want. Luckily, a bunch of scientists have wondered the same thing.
These types of studies are often small, and frequently rely on self-reported feelings in a lab, which may be different from how women truly react in real life. And the participants are often Western college students, who are not an especially a diverse group. So take the results with a grain of salt.
But hey, whatever helps, right?
Here are 11 science-supported traits that women find irresistible.
1. Good looks can be a factor, but they're not as important as you may think. In studies, women typically choose better-looking guys for flings, not long-term relationships.
2. A sense of humor is important to women. Scientists have found it makes men seem more intelligent.
3. For long relationships, women tend to prefer altruistic men who are kind and do good deeds.
4. In studies, women choose men posing in front of expensive cars or apartments, versus ordinary ones, possibly because they make the men appear rich.
5. Women may like older men because they've had time to accumulate more resources.
6. Facial hair has been an attraction and a repellent in studies, so that feature is likely based on preference. Do what you want with your face; you'll attract the right mate.
7. Older research concluded that people liked when other people liked them, but recent studies have found that "playing hard to get" could be an effective tactic. When men are unavailable, that might make women want them more.
8. Small studies have indicated that men with dogs do better with the ladies.
9. In one speed-dating experiment, women were more attracted to men who were mindful — present, attentive, and nonjudgmental.

I have a sense of humor...love the Three Stooges, Andrew Dice Clay, Eddie Murphy, Richard Pryor, etc. Why doesn’t it work for me?
If I was a rich guy I would want a real woman, not a death camp survivor. Of money is going to buy me happiness I expect it to come wrapped in a beautiful, soft, cushy package I can snuggle up with.

I don’t mind that the men here have their own discussions. I just wish we ladies would start our own threads. Why don’t we? Let them talk their stuff on their threads. We can talk on ours. Why haven’t we ever done that?

Most women are decent people who marry decent men.
The stereotype of a woman attracted to the bad boys is unfortunately also true. Not anywhere near a majority but I see it happen on these crime shows all the time.
For a while I watched a lot of the true crime shows, even the one owned by Oprah.
There seems to be two types. One is a perfectly innocent girl who is targeted by a monster type who kidnaps, murders, etc. She may not even know him.
The other type is a girl who for some reason unknown to me, is attracted to a guy who is obviously a brute. I keep asking myself. Why did she even go out with that guy? He is clearly a monster.
There is a third type which is also common. A woman who hires someone to murder her husband, usually for financial gain.

The less resources the male sire needs to expend, the greater the alpha male.
In human terms the guy with 20 kids from 20 different women who all live of welfare is the greatest alpha male.
There is no knowing what women want, because women don’t know what they want. And if they ever do, they change their minds.

Because normal, conservative women here on FR LIKE men. They believe in marriage and monogamy. They have excellent marriages for the most part and so don’t see the need for attacking the male species.
Most of the women-hating men here are divorced or, hilariously, have sons who are divorced. Some are “incels” which apparently means they are “awkward” towards the female species and so avoid them. A lot of them, thankfully, have gone over to the Q threads where you can be crazy and get away with it.
Been there. I was the nice guy, third wheel, in our group after my wife died very young. I didn’t drink, didn’t smoke, didn’t do drugs, treated women with respect, earned a comfortable living and was not hard to look at. Don’t know how many times the women in our group would say ‘It’s too bad (fill in the blank) can’t find a nice guy like redangus to date’, while I was sitting at the table. Did any of them ever introduce me their single friends? No. I eventually found my own woman and have been happily married for 23 years. Don’t know what happened to those other women, but I know a few at least went through some crappy abusive relationships. Their loss I guess.
