'Empire' actor Jussie Smollett's bond set at $100G, judge calls evidence against him 'outrageous'

The judge who set "Empire” star Jussie Smollett's bond at $100,000 gave the actor an earful after Smollett was charged Thursday with disorderly conduct for allegedly filing a false police report.

"As you stand before me we presume you're innocent but the state read me a proffer that is outrageous. If true, the noose conjures up [the] greatest evil in this country," Cook County Judge John Fitzgerald Lyke Jr. told Smollett.

The 36-year-old actor said little other than giving his name at the beginning of Thursday's hearing. His attorney, who said the actor denies all charges against him, asked the judge to release Smollett on his own recognizance. However, the judge said that would be inappropriate.

Following three weeks of mounting suspicions, Smollett, who is accused of filing a false police report, was charged Wednesday with felony disorderly conduct. He turned himself in at central booking early Thursday. If convicted, he is facing up to three years in prison.

Yes, I enjoy hearing those clips too.

He’s the one that brought it to my attention.

All politicians and the media use the same phrase.

Then they try to act as if they aren’t the same group/unified.

Which is why it used to drive me crazy when McCain, Graham, and others would pop off against Trump.

They did their best to destroy unity on our side.

It was all about building them up, to heck with what was best for the nation.

I never noticed it in the past, either. Now, it annoys me to no end. ;)

More newthink.

When I was a kid playing with rope, I frequently made nooses. It had nothing to do with blacks or history as I barely knew either. But I guess I saw nooses on Gunsmoke or other Westerns and was pleased with myself when I was able to make them.

It wouldn’t bother me so much if our side was unified.

They are on the same page, and our cats are heading out in the full 360 degree spectrum.

In this case a 100k bond will cost you a 10k nonrefundable fee. If the judge set the bail at 1 million then he would have to pay 100k fee. Bail bonds is a very lucrative business.

Yeah, very high interest rate, but you've got to be able to collect from the absconders. Which is why there are bounty hunters.

Talking Points. Rush runs audio montages of all the major networks using the same phrases on the same day...especially when HE is the topic. ;)

I wonder where they come from?

Amazing that no one has leaked that info.

It would sure be fun to hear one of the calls where the "morning line" is put out.

It’s good that McCain and Flake aren’t in the Senate stabbing President Trump in the back every chance they got, they were two turkeys joined at the hip.

Hopefully Graham continues his support of him but it remains to be seen and expect to see Mitt pick up McCain’s dagger and the twin sisters of the Senate are still there.

The one that really gets to me now is Coulter, she’s really gone to the dark side and is hopeless. Annie’s embarrassing herself and doesn’t give a whit.

I agree with your observations, and Ann is just ‘out there’.

Man, she is so lost. Who does she see on the scene that would be better than Trump.

You know what, the person that challenges him if anyone does, will end their career right then.

Ann has lost her ability to reason > IMO.

Bond can be posted by anyone. I posted bond for someone. When he showed for his court date I got the money back, minus a fee.

Is that the Cory-Kam lynch bill you're referring to?

(That's an interesting question you raise.   Jussie started out doing a little "self-noosing", so that possibly implies some kind of "self-hatred" hate crime.   So maybe they can throw that statute at him as well, when they throw the book at him for filing a false police report.   Now, if the public determines that one Jussie is just one too much-y, and they want to allow him to use his noose on himself as he planned, as long as they do that in a thoroughly loving manner, how can that be deemed a hate crime by the Corn-Kob crowd?)

I don’t think that option’s available under the Michigan criminal code.

With Jussie’s race card and queer card and SAG card he’ll probably get nothing more than community service.

“It’s more than outrageous. It’s a hate crime.
He hates me for being white and supporting the greatest President of our generation.

I would never accost a person, any person, without provocation. He implied I would, for no other reason than a person is black or gay. He lies. He hates. He divides.”

Yep. This is a hate crime against all white people, against all conservatives, against all Trump supporters, against blacks who are not racist...

You said it right.

Will he be prosecuted for a hate crime?

Or do only white people get prosecuted for that?
