Not long ago, I wrote about the most overrated hits songs of all time. I love compiling lists like those because they allow me to get in touch with my snarky side as well as rant a little. In that post four months ago, I mused about doing a list of overrated artists. Well, the time has come.
Here are the ten most overrated musical artists of all time. Dont get me wrong: I like some of the music by some of these artists, and though there are only a few bands and solo performers I completely despise, youll find that I dont hold back on how little I care for many of the folks on this list.
Believe me, Im aware that Im going to ruffle some feathers with this list. Im fine with that, because taste in music is always subjective. But as you read the list, keep an open mind and see if you agree with me. And even if you dont, just have fun reading it

Yes they do.
CCR sucks as bad as the beatles.
Any overrated list which does not feature the Beatles and Bob Dylan prominently is faulty.
He is a good poet like Dylan but of course different. I remember somewhere in the 70’s I bought one of Springsteen’s albums but I just put it in the stack. It always sounded like he was yelling at me over the rest of the band.Only thing his music did was aggravate me. Maybe he’s better live? Some people are like that.
Had DeVitto and Elton John touring with him until his alcoholism broke him down. Sad thing. Good to see YOU still kicking around.
Springsteen was yelling. Yawn. They say he was great live. But I knew like I knew I had no interest in the Beatles ( George Harrisons while my guitar gently weeps excepted - see Princes version) no.
Sinatra, whos been taking hits here, said Springsteen was a good (great?) poet
Sinatra knew. Words were as important as melody. Theme and message.
He must have seen something
Springsteen had some good songs you have to look for.
He could have gone the humble way and been highly regarded here.
Look at the artists who are given quiet one post kudos on this thread. Theyre the good ones
“Overrated” = “A lot of people like them but I don’t”.
Consensus seems to be Springsteen and any cadence talker.
Many acts are definitely acquired tastes - I love listening to the Grateful Dead’s recorded music - but I’m told there were many nights on the road where they were barely listenable except to the zonked dead heads. I don’t see them as overrated - at their best they were awesome.
There are a lot of people that can sing and/or play well enough to get people to listen to them - it’s not a rare talent. And for every one of them, somebody likes them and somebody else doesn’t.
Yep, dead wrong on CCR. I’d swap
them with Michael Bolton as number 1.
As aggravating Springsteen is the Beatles were sometimes downright disturbing. Another good band that was aggravating/disturbing was Led Zep. Now they play good songs but once the singing begins it sets me on edge. Just me? Not relaxing.
I guess I liked and like as my granny used to say,"The good old dittys that make you want to cut the rug." I enjoy good ballads, rhapsodies, blues so much but there has to be a catchy beat and words that make sense with a good singer.
Nowadays I listen to very little, Old country, folk, classical and church worship. Mostly old hymns but some new) so in a large sense i could dump most the old music and be perfectly happy never hearing most the 60's-80's music.
Don’t worry, my flame thrower isn’t
aimed in your direction. There might
be a total of 2 Elvis songs I like.
CCR originated in El Cerrito, CA.
Not what I would call southern.
They were very prevalent during my
high school days. Many good memories.
The Beatles.
No one is that good.
I lived through Beatlemania, and thought it then.
It does not make them mediocre. It just means that no band could ever justify that much irrational hyperbole.
Janis (stunned-oh) Joplin.
Overrated BIGTIME!! s\Screaming and shouting off-key whilst caterwauling is NOT singing!
Of all time?? And you only have a few decades in there. REALLY?
My wife took her guys to a ball game 20 years ago. One drunk employee engaged me in conversation and referred to the rock group Queen. I said I wasnt familiar with them. He immediately called me a f-Ing liar, lol! My wife, the next day, called him fired, double lol!
I dont play any musical instrument and a week doesnt go by where I dont regret not learning to play the piano. Im sure Ill think of that on my death bed.
Clapton was certainly competent, even good. Especially with the Yardbirds and Cream. I think Sunshine of Your Love has one of the best riffs going. Just now I checked Wikipedia and learned Jack Bruce came up with it being inspired by Hendrix.
Im gonna check out Mark Knopfler.
Who were influenced by white blues originators Dock Boggs and Jimmy Rogers among others.
I too sawed ZEPPELIN in 1972. In Houston
