Not long ago, I wrote about the most overrated hits songs of all time. I love compiling lists like those because they allow me to get in touch with my snarky side as well as rant a little. In that post four months ago, I mused about doing a list of overrated artists. Well, the time has come.
Here are the ten most overrated musical artists of all time. Dont get me wrong: I like some of the music by some of these artists, and though there are only a few bands and solo performers I completely despise, youll find that I dont hold back on how little I care for many of the folks on this list.
Believe me, Im aware that Im going to ruffle some feathers with this list. Im fine with that, because taste in music is always subjective. But as you read the list, keep an open mind and see if you agree with me. And even if you dont, just have fun reading it

>> In their day the Dead sold out every single venue they ever played. <<
Well yeah, the topic is who’s over-rated..
Is Strawberry Alarm Clock on the List?
Incense and Peppermints, a big fav of mine way back when.
How about my Teenage Garage Band, The Copperheads? We did a mean rendition of House of the Rising Sun.
See # 229.
Any act that has a big internet following but has no actual hits. Yes, I mean all those groups that no one but fringe junkies ever heard of, e.g. the Smiths, the Ramones.
Overrated is actually an understatement for them. Actually, they are full blown bad.
Slim Harpo- The Original Kingbee a seminal blues singer who influenced many on the list like the Stones.
Possibly.
I've played guitar since I was 9....I'm now 67, still play.
Mark Knopfler is on the top of the list now.
FMCDH(BITS)
CCR is one of my favorite bands, along with The Allman Brothers Band and The Band. Chris Queen is a blithering idiot.
Incorrect, Thriller was Michael Jackson’s album produced by Quincy Jones. In just one year it became the world’s best selling album. Selling an estimated 66 million copies. That’s where the deception comes in the album was virtually un Sellable years later we threw away everything that said Thriller on it as did many other record stores all over the country.
If your interested in learning more about the reported facts concerning Michael Jackson’s Thriller look on Wikipedia.
I agree with some, some not.
But, the Beatles should be on the list.
And this is NOT an all-time list. Once again the earliest he goes is 60s, and everything is really pop (ie rock) music. Definitely doesnt look ecletic. And when he puts 2 or 3 VERY recent acts, that begs he is not truly looking at all time. They are too young to really judge.
Springsteen lyric
The Young Rascals might argue that.
My personal over-rated: Jennifer Lopez. Can’t name a single one of her songs. Wouldn’t know one if I heard one. Yet there she is on The Grammy’s (I did not watch). And she is supposedly a recording artist.
+1 followed by 500 million zeros, commas optional.
Mark Knopfler is underrated
Oingo Boingo... Dead Man's Party is one of my all-time faves. Danny Elfman is pretty talented, has done lot of movie scores too.
I really did not know that! Thanks for the info. “THIRTY Days in the Hole”. GREAT SONG!!
I liked “Tattoo You”, too. The “director’s cut” of Exile had some good stuff on it.
Glad someone else posted that.
I do not think they stink, but definitely overrated, which means they can still be good but given too much credit.
I like the early light music, the hippie stuff not so much. Not just that it is hippie subject, but honestly the music and singing is often just goofy and dare I say, gaysounding. I dont mean merry. I mean sounds stupid. Really? This goofy music is hip and cool?
Kanye West
I know, covered by *any rapper* comments
If he wasn’t involved w/ the Kardashians, no one would know who he is/was.
