Not long ago, I wrote about the most overrated hits songs of all time. I love compiling lists like those because they allow me to get in touch with my snarky side as well as rant a little. In that post four months ago, I mused about doing a list of overrated artists. Well, the time has come.
Here are the ten most overrated musical artists of all time. Dont get me wrong: I like some of the music by some of these artists, and though there are only a few bands and solo performers I completely despise, youll find that I dont hold back on how little I care for many of the folks on this list.
Believe me, Im aware that Im going to ruffle some feathers with this list. Im fine with that, because taste in music is always subjective. But as you read the list, keep an open mind and see if you agree with me. And even if you dont, just have fun reading it

The Grateful Dead an open mike band? In their day the Dead sold out every single venue they ever played.
Don’t ‘dis’ ABBA .. I hear they are going to your again... Got to get those nostalgia buck$...
This tune, however, is an epic demonstration of the genius of John Lennon:
He was sitting in a coffee shop one day and decided to write a song about the stories he read in the newspaper that one day. Unbelievable. Who else could write a legendary verse about potholes being filled by the highway department in Blackburn, Lancashire?
Overrated by what standard?
I’ve never even heard of Imagine Dragon, Maroon 5, Adam Levine so I can’t really consider them overrated when I didn’t even know they were rated to begin with. Yeh IK I’m not up on the music scene.
I would consider Madonna and Lady Gaga overrated or maybe just knockoffs of Grace Jones, who is talented.
Tommy James and the Shondells (Hanky Panky) were Hesh-ed by the mob. Took all their recording and rights money. The band only got concert cash. Good and interesting interview on YouTube. The guy is a pretty mature Christian, now.
The video even has a young Matthew McConaughey -- before anyone even knew who he was!
Michael Jackson
I never could understand his appeal. He should be at the top of the list.
Still, I never knew that about Tommy James and the Shondells. Made them an offer they couldn't refuse, wow.
Stopped reading at The Doors. Clearly the author is inbred.
Are we related? Two of the best sing loudly in your truck albums!
“MEATLOAF” -CivilWarBrewing
“Bruce Springsteen” -VTenigma

Definitely agree on BS.
Guy can’t sing.
However, the song writing was pretty damn good. Lotta heart in the 70s, and catchy junk in the 80s.
So points for that, and the title of this is ‘overrated artists’, so I will give springsteen point for writing and performance. But can’t sing for sheet.
Meatloaf on the other hand, can belt it out!
Meatloaf was also the benificiary of great song writing. Credit Jim Steinman for that. Meatloaf without him flopped.
Elvis.
The author of this list is completely clueless when it comes to talent and music.
Totally agree on Journey. Channel ALWAYS gets changed when they come on. Ugh.
The Rolling Stones, the Doors, Micheal Jackson ???
The writer is a raving moron idiot .
Why isn’t Rush on the list?
My Top Ten Overrated All-Time
1- U2
2- Bob Marley and the Wailers
3- Beatles
4- Eagles
5- Elvis Presley
6- Frank Sinatra
7- Jimmy Buffet
8- Lady Gaga
9- N.W.A.
10-Public Enemy
And let's not forget "The End of the World as We Know It." It's even got its own trope: TEOTWAWKI.
meh
The Dead were great when Bobby Weir sang, marginal when Garcia sang.
