Boiling water challenge sends at least 8 people to hospital during polar vortex

Have you seen videos of people throwing boiling water into the air to watch it freeze instantly? It’s the latest viral challenge, and it’s sending people to the hospital.

Within the last view weeks, parts of the United States have been affected by the polar vortex, which occurs when circulating winds from the northern pole travel southward and cause below freezing temperatures.

To test just how cold the weather has been, folks have been tossing boiling water into the sky to turn it into tiny ice crystals.

Eight people who took part in the challenge have been treated at the burn center of Chicago's Loyola University Medical Center, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.

The patients treated range in age from three to 53, and they’ve had injuries to their feet, arms, hands and face with varying degrees of burns.

Some people are.....how to describe?

Foolish, careless, don’t take precautions, lack common sense?

So, there’s hope for the human race after all.

Surely, these people will not live long.

I watched a genius throw boiling water on his frosted over windshield, one sub-zero morning. It exploded.

That thermal shock, it's a b!tch.

You are supposed to put the hot water away from yourself in the air and not on yourself. Also a small cup is better than 5 gallons.

I read years ago that hot water freezes faster than cold.

When I told an older friend, he said he was disappointed in me, thinking I was smarter than that. I carried the shame of it with me.

Now I find out hot water does freeze faster than cold but it’s too late to wave it in my friend’s face. Phooey.

These are the same people who pee outside on cold nights to see if the urine freezes on the way down.

Last ‘view’ weeks. Uh, I thought it was like a 3 or 4 day anomaly then back to normal freezing stuff. Who knew? Oh, the “Cli-Fi” network.

Um wouldn’t cold water freeze more easily than boiling without any of the burn hazard? Or was the whole point of this to do it with boiling water?

On a warm day ,mind you, target practicing with a 300 win. magnum rifle across the hood of a pickup truck, the muzzle blast can break the windshield as well.

I pee outside all the time. It doesn’t freeze but when exposed to really cold weather Big Jim and the Twins go into hiding and it makes it difficult to complete the experiment.

The new term for cold weather. “Polar Vortex”

No wonder kids today have no clue and we old people have no idea what the hell they are talking about.
