Sen. Kamala Harris said this morning she supports “some type of” reparations to black Americans for slavery.
In an interview with the “Breakfast Club,” a radio show on New York City’s Power 105.1, host Charlamagne asked Kamala Harris about reparations. “Where do you stand on some form of reparations for black people? Here you see Mayor De Blasio saying the marijuana economy could be a form of reparations. Marianne Williamson says black people should get a hundred billion in slave reparations–like, where do you stand on it?”
Harris responded:
Well look, I think that we have got to address that again, it’s back to the inequities. There, through–look, America has a history of 200 years of slavery. We had Jim Crow. We had legal segregation in America for a very long time. The Voting Rights Act was only strong for 50 years and then they wiped it out with this United States Supreme Court in the Shelby decision, to the point that 22 states immediately thereafter put in place laws that one court found were crafted with surgical precision to have black people not be able to vote.”
So we’ve got to recognize, back to that earlier point, people aren’t starting out on the same base, in terms of their ability to succeed and so we have got to recognize that and give people a lift up. And, there are a number of ways to do it. Part of my initiative again around the ‘Lift Act’ is that same point–you lifting people up who are making less than a hundred thousand dollars a year. What I want to do about rent is the same thing. What we need to do around education and understanding disparities, what we need to do around HBCUs. But we have a history of racism in America.
Charlamagne asked again, “So you are for some type of reparations?”
“Yes I am, yes I am,” Harris responded.
Donna Brazile and April Ryan are also out there pushing for a handout…
How about - any person held as a slave shall be compensated via reparations from their master.
I can’t see a serious candidate admitting this publicly; “white guilt” is dead (though young whites may pay lip service to it), and now it is the mindlessly repeated mantra of people who have given up on assimilation.
The actions of most young white liberals indicate they don’t believe the “racial harmony” BS; here in NJ our welfare reservations are desperately trying to lure young white professionals, without success.
It’s called college financial aid.
I had a (black) father tell me that his daughter would have her tuition almost completely paid for via aid. ...wearing an expensive suit, drove off in a Mercedes.
My (white) U.S. Marine son got nothing, paid it with loans (and some help from me).
What is offensive is they’re appropriating what prior generations had to endure that they themselves have never had to....then appropriate the injustice of the behavior of generations behind me to me.
It is complete anti-justice. Blame me for something I had nothing to do with or had any choice regarding, while absorbing the victimhood status of things that never happened to them. It is lunacy to believe anyone would agree to it let alone believe it could be accomplished in any fair way. Who did whom wrong? To what extent? How far back do we go? ...now prove it.
To state that she’s for this is a declaration of her stupidity.

No, Kameltoe, America had 86 years of slavery. America did not exist until our Constitution was ratified in 1779. Slavery was ended in 1865.
You’ll need to mug Britain for the remaining 124 years.(1655-1779) Maybe they’ll pony up some $$$ for your lost cause.
My guess is you have some heritage related to African merchants or Hannibal’s army coming up from Tunisia.

The United States didn’t bring slavery to North America, that was the United Kingdom. The U.S. fought the bloodiest war in our history to END slavery. Kamala may want to try it, but I doubt the Her Majesty’s government would be willing to pay up.

What about compensation for my gX4 grandfather who was killed at Cold Harbor after going thru 2.5 years of unmitigated Hell in the Army of the Potomac? There wasn’t the safety net for a widow and 4 kids under the age of 10 back then......
