'Combat shopping': Mayhem at Seattle stores as shoppers clear shelves pre-snow storm

"Who has the key to the liquor cabinet? I've got 25 people lined up over there!" yelled one worker at the store.

Shoppers were lined up down every aisle waiting to check out.

At Costco stores around the area, people stocked up in bulk, apparently specifically on liquor.

"Hat tip to the lady in front of me at Costco. 18 bottles of wine, 2 cases of Fremont IPA, & cherry tomatoes. Godspeed, ma'am," wrote MS Kalara on Twitter.

At Fred Meyer, shoppers described a "war zone" of "combat shopping."

I live just across the river and I have never seen a reaction like yesterday to this potential snow event. It was insane, I stopped by the store because it’s Friday and needed a few things, it was more crowded than the day before Thanksgiving. They actually were running out of supplies. It really made me think about how easy the government, with assistance of the media could manipulate the masses.

I do freeze milk....but it’s just for my coffee when it’s too darn cold to go out for more. Cremora works in a pinch.

I already need to dig out in front of the shed doors to get one of the generators out, in case things go dark later. Also have the solar battery array fully charged (1200+ amp hours), and that was done “artificially” — with a charger — as there hasn’t been significant sunshine all winter!

Here in the D.C. area, they stock up on toilet paper!

It's probably because they are all Democrats and know we are going to get Venezuela'd soon.

Lived there - winter of 85-86 , snowed heavy enough that I-5 was one lane each direction for days.. The AFB had to close the runway for a week - reason: no snow removal equipment.. Why invest in snow removal equipment when most of the time the weather would warm up quickly after snow falls and melt it...

Parts of I-84 and I-82 are not in very good shape, believe me. Listening on the scanner and there are big rigs and one emergency vehicle stuck in drifts. Too many ordinary vehicles in ditches to call them all in at the moment.

You charged your solar batteries “artificially”? What did you do? Shine flashlights on the solar cells?

I have a relative in Austin. She said the temperature dropped 25 degrees in 8 hours. She's wearing her down vest inside.

I'm in Florida. Friday it was in the 80's. Today it's mid 60's. Yesterday T-shirts and shorts. Today I guess some people will put on long pants. My bare feet are cold. I'll have to put on shoes when I go outside. Life is tough, isn't it?

[We moved away from the crazy “west side” this past summer. We are currently under a blizzard warning here in Quincy, in central Washington. The shelves in our stores are full. Just sayin....]

How often do you get snow? Is it like a once-in-a-decade deal?

Many of those “babies” are nasty when it comes to politics.
Some will be very nasty when they discover that you are a conservative and voted for Donald J. Trump.

I had that experience last October.

A woman acted like a third grade brat, even sticking her tongue out at me while I was trying to make a point. I was civil, surprisingly, until the conversation ended.
Why go back to Seattle?
