PERKASIE A 13-month old girl who was seriously injured when the family dog attacked the child and her mother remains hospitalized but is showing improvement, the Perkasie Borough Police Department said the afternoon of Feb. 1.
We did get word this afternoon that the baby victim is responding well to medical treatment, which is good news, Perkasie police Chief Steven Hillias said.
Officers responding to the 400 block of Grandview Avenue in Perkasie about 6:30 p.m. Jan. 30 found the child with serious bite wounds on multiple areas of her body and her mother with bite marks on her hands, arms and legs, police said.
The child was taken to a local hospital, then transferred to a Philadelphia hospital, where she underwent surgery and was in critical condition Jan. 31, police said.
A female neighbor heard the screams when the attack happened and responded to help, police said. A male passing motorist, who police called heroic, stopped and interrupted the attack, saving the toddler, police said.
Unfortunately, he himself suffered a serious leg injury after falling on the ice and snow while struggling with the dog. He refused medical care until the injured child was treated, the Perkasie Borough Police Department said on its crimewatchpa.com page.
Investigation of the incident is continuing, but it appears to be a tragic accident and more information will be posted as developments arise, police said.
The dog is in confinement, Hillias said.

The dogs breed has not been released, but there has been comment on social media, he said.
I find that curious because what matters most is the baby, the mother, the good Samaritan, Hillias said.
He said hes proud of the local community, both for the response of the good Samaritan When a person was in need, one of our citizens didnt think twice and the well wishes for the family that have been conveyed through social media.
The family involved and the good Samaritan are not ready to speak publicly and it is asked that their privacy be respected, police said.
Is it now racist to put "pit bull" in a dog attack story? I know they now never tell you the description when it's a black guy perp, but now pit bulls are protected???
I guess they could refer to the dog as a “teen”?
Evidently - I have know folks who had pit bulls that were sweet through their lives...but I also know some Dems who aren’t all that bad and I don’t trust the average Dem....
Amish Dog......................
Or Superpredator
It was probably a poodle or Chihuahua
The dog’s breed is:
1. Chihuahua
2. Yorkshire Terrier
3. Dachshund
4. Pit Bull
Make your choice........................
“The dog.”
Is this similar use of “teens” for the usual suspects in mob violence?
Is “dog” code for a pet bear or wolverine?
“Chihuahua”
Meanest dogs ever
Aspiring rapper?
The dog was going to go back to obedience school
Lemme guess...
“It appears to be a tragic accident”
So.....they didn’t know they brought a pit bull into their home with a small child?
Although I'm not exactly complaining, I find this curious.
In other cases, police officers have been known to jump fences and sneak through back yard which searching for some burglar that someone spotted. When such police encounter a family pet, they seem to often just gun the dog down.
Here we have a dog attack two people -- one an infant -- and the police wrestle with the dog, one cop being injured by falling during that struggle and the dog being successfully subdued and put into confinement.
Such relative gentleness seems surprising. But the world is upside down.
Maybe they’re afraid pit bulls will sue them in a class action lawsuit.
On the plus side, they’re demanding that mini-dachshund’s tax returns from last year, just to make sure they didn’t hob-nob with any Russian dogs or anything.
Pit bulls. The islamists of the dog world. You just never know when they’re going to explode. Now, like their human counterparts, are a protected class.
When is a dog not a “dog”?
The father was having remorse for keeping the dog. I was thinking, but didn't say, that he should be turned in for child abuse for being so stupid.
Double plus good on him!
