What is in your bug out bag? Curious what others carry. I am in the north east so my needs / choices will probably be different than a southerner depending on season. My primary bag is what I take to work. It is intended to get me home if I have to go on hoof. Couple MRE's, stainless utensils, change of socks (x2), pair of worn in running shoes (outside bag; loose in car), three 1quart canteens hanging off the bag, 3 quart internal to the bag with "straw"; water purifiers, upgraded medical (field sutures, bandages, pressure bandages, etc); stop the bleed kit, peroxide, assortment of self adhesive bandages (think bandages with neosporin that latch on), some trash bags (keep gear dry; just in case), strike anywhere matches, couple bic lighters, small set of scissors, 3 inch knife, K-Bar, Legal short barreled shotgun in scabbard, 25 round satchel of 3 inch assorted shotgun shells; 50 ft of parachute cord; 50 zip ties and last but not least, "ranger roll" and an iso mat.
Just reading this now. You might laugh at my get home plans just posted above,
I liked your attitude.
Have you considered a native American travois (drag cart of lashed together wooden poles),
or a modified child's wagon similar to the bicycle "tow behind" ?
The wagon is ideal for level and asphalt surfaces; the travois can and has been used for rough and unfinished surfaces.
Selection of which woods to use for the travois might best be found in research at a library, or native American reservation.
This way the dog is responsible for transporting it's own supplies.
If travel is by waterway, don't forget to have a life preserver for your best friend/ nighttime sentry.("Woof")
Thanks for several good ideas.
Yes we have matching bright yellow life jackets, I have had to make a dog nail proof cover for the boat too.
Soft sand , if walking above the high tide line, will make it almost impossible to walk long distances there. Beach walking would provide no cover either.
Rolling case is really for long term car bug out.
I really think my only hope is to remain in my safe room. Secrecy with a small barking dog might be a large problem!
I have had to consider changes in the plan over the many years that have passed and the advance in age that has made some ideas less easily accomplished!
