"The brutal cold gripping Minnesota made itself felt in tens of thousands of living rooms Wednesday as Xcel Energy resorted to asking customers to turn their thermostats down to 63 degrees to conserve natural gas.
The request to Xcels more than 400,000 customers came as the utility strained in the sub-zero temperatures to keep up with heating demand.
And a few Minnesotans dealt with the nightmare of having no heat at all.
About 150 homes in the Princeton area, about an hour north of Minneapolis, lost natural gas service about 10:30 p.m. Tuesday. In response, Xcel asked about 12,000 customers in nearby Becker, Big Lake, Chisago City, Lindstrom, Princeton and Isanti to turn down their thermostats to 60."

It’s like Viagra. If you need it, you shouldn’t be using it.
Not if they're frozen like an ice cube!
I know a guy in monticello maine that has 2 wind turbines.
he bit, and is not impressed
When it gets cold, you get to climb the 200 foot tower and change the oil to a winter weight.
when they run he says they cover 25% of his costs
OMG
Wonder how wind and solar works at extreme temperatures?
solar panels don’t work when covered in snow
“Naturally” Well it’s natural. How come they don’t like natural? The gas people need some better PR.
“Gluten Free!” Free range, organic, locally sourced. What’s not to like?
NG cars don’t plug into the grid
Man Made Global Warming is Killing us and the Planet, please TURN YOUR HEATERS OFF!!!
Natgas is moved through the pipes by water pressure. Water freezes when exposed to cold temps.
This was a huge problem in the 70s cold snap, leading to the explosion of all-electric homes.
Even as a 70s kid, I despised that fool from GA.
Hmmmm... No.
As part of the 5G installation all thermostats, electric meters, gas meters and water meters will be controlled from the central Resource Allocation Authority. They will simply adjust the temperature or disable the service as the government sees fit.
By the way, they will even set your alarm clock for you.
re: “Natgas is moved through the pipes by water pressure.”
I think you mean “by compressors”.
Water is REMOVED (along with other gases) during the processing of raw, wellhead gas ...
There is a reel on YouTube of collected live radio coverage of the Great Buffalo Blizzard of ‘77. It occurred in the midst of Carter’s failed energy policies. In addition to being buried under a mountain of snow or being stranded in a Datsun on the Thruway, listeners were repeatedly being told of a natural gas shortage and to set their thermostats at 60.
No wonder the Georgia Clown got bounced in 1980.
But we were supposed to be impressed because Jimmy Carter wore a sweater while addressing the nation.
So as far as it goes, they are having a normal winter up there and they cant handle it.
He told us to turn down our thermostats in the winter and to turn them up in the summer because we were engaged in the "moral equivalent of war" (MEOW).
The far northern suburbs (Sherburne Co) of M-StP are the most rapidly growing areas. Population more than doubled in a decade. Infrastructure isn’t keeping up.
Electric cars plug into gas fired power stations.
Also in the summer when all the ac’s are on...rolling blackouts.
Meanwhile, up here in NH people do not want the Northern Pass power transmission line to come through from Quebec Hydro where they have more electricity than they can ever use. Plus it is the CLEANEST electricity produced in the world, not to mention the cheapest. Also, last I heard there was not any shortage of water flowing into the Great Lakes drainage basin. Unlike, the Colorado River, the Saint Lawrence Seaway is not in a continual drought situation.
I honestly blame Sununu. Not the current one. The one who was governor back in the 1980’s that became Bush 41 Chief of Staff. We had the opportunity back then to build these power lines and import the electric power from Quebec Hydro. Instead they pushed through Seabrook Nuclear power station. However, they ONLY built one reactor instead of two. All the crazy libs fought that tooth and nail back then too if you remember. I still remember the signs going out to Plum Island, MA that say no evacuation possible.
So, now 35 years later we continue to kick the can down the road. The residents up in Coos county(border to PQ) do not want the transmission line to ruin their view. Coos county is very rural. Their income comes from farming, hunting, fishing, snowmobilers, camping, basically tourism. They do not want the line in their backyard that they will get absolutely no benefit from. With the exception of Rockingham and Hillsborough Countys(MA border) there will be no need for more electricity in the foreseeable future.
Most of the need for electricity is in MA, RI & CT. So, people up in rural NH say: why should this Right of Way transmission line go through our backyard to benefit all of dem dare flat landas don soth?
